Middle school is the worst, because apparently here in California, you can't expel a student unless he's going into juvenile or some other institutionalized setting. We had a boy caught redhanded with a bag of pot, a pretty sizable amount (read: intent to distribute) right in History class. It fell out of his pocket right in front of the teacher. This 8th grader already has a record a mile long, including theft, fights, disrespect, and everything else.
He was suspended for one day. He also received a summons to appear in court (since he's so young, you know they won't do much to him.) The day after his suspension, he is right back in class, hanging out with decent kids. I WISH the drop out rate were higher in middle school. These are the kids you want OUT.
