Condoleezza Albright? The Twilight of the Bush Presidency Is Looking More and More like Clinton

Guest Column | By Joel Himelfarb | March 31, 2008

As someone who voted to elect George W. Bush in both of his runs for president, I take no pleasure in saying that when it comes to foreign policy, his final year in the White House looks increasingly like Bill Clinton’s. Clinton spent his second term desperately trying to create a peacemaking “legacy” for himself: courting world leaders who had no real interest in making peace like Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat and North Korean strongman Kim Jong-Il, but failing utterly when it came to the basics, like ensuring that the United States had the intelligence capabilities to tackle the terrorist threat posed by groups like al Qaeda.

Now, President Bush appears to be falling into some of the same traps...

Unfortunately, with Bush’s presidency winding down, and his push for a ‘peace solution’ to come to the turmoil in the Middle East, I’m afraid Israel is being sold out in this rush to come up with a solution, in fact almost any solution. I’m being led to believe that Israeli PM Olmert may be in bed with the Bush camp on this, and that he is selling his own country out, with all the concessions we have been hearing he is willing to make to the Arabs. If a ‘peace solution’ is achieved, I’m afraid that it may not bode well for the future of the Israelis.

I am very disappointed in Bush - especially with his illegal glorification and then one is on death row in TEXAS and he doesn’t want to enforce our laws and go by the world court. Bush is getting to be a scary guy - McCain is NO BETTER.

And on top of that he just pardoned a couple dozen criminals. Sounds and looks like a Clinton stunt for sure.

I wonder if Olmert has his villa in Europe or the US picked out for when the end comes that he has brokered with the active connivance of the US?

Bush also finished what Clinton started and that is raping Serbia for Kosovo and turning Christian lands into a pure Islamic state.

And on top of that, companies that had huge prescription drug obligations to their former employees simply transfered their obligations to their former employees right on to the backs of the US taxpayer. they called it the Prescription drug act of 2003.

A great deal for the auto manufacturers and defense contractor but an unwarranted disaster to taxpayers. Thanks GW.

I prefer Condoleeza Reich, given her Jew-bashing obsession.

Condi Rice has succumbed to the terrorist threats of the Palestinians, and has been abusing the Jewish people. The Jewish people have only one tiny homeland in all of this world. Because of Condi Rice and her inadequacy, the Jewish soldier captives have never been able to come home.
There are three of them still captive, because of Rice insisting that Israel give up every thing and submit to her wims, which is the same as the Palestinian wims. Jordan is the true Palestinian state, with 70% Palestinians there, and there is NO need for a second Palestinian state. Jordan even has a Palestinian Queen.

If you'd like to be on this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.

From the perspective of someone who clearly stated that the road map was a far worse deal for Israel than Oslo, with zero benefits to America, the author is generous. With the benefit of hindsight, when Arafat offered to accept the Camp David terms, I'm thinking 2002, Israel should have accepted. And as a back up position which isn't popular here, Sharon was absolutely correct in leaving Gaza, and Israel should have continued on that course, drawing lines in the West Bank, and leaving what they don't intend to hold. Give the palestinians their state unilaterally. Diplomaticly they'll settle for nothing less than Tel Aviv.
