That being said i agree he personally will run center perhaps left of center but unfortunately that is where the electorate is right now

The vast majority of the electorate does not know left from right. The electorate goes where ever the best leader takes them.

“He says that the closest thing to a John F. Kennedy Democrat is McCain. That’s not a good thing for the GOP.”

Only if you measure Kennedy as a “democrat” vis-a-vis those who are “democrats” today.

This illustrates how there has been an ever-leftward shift of BOTH parties in the last 50 years. In 1960, many democrats were more “conservative” (and I chose that word carefully) than many Republicans are TODAY.

The parties have shifted left further than the Euro-electorate, however (and I choose THAT phrase carefully, as well). As democrats continually try to appease the demands of the left, the Republicans shuffle in the same direction, afraid of being left behind, in fear of being declared intolerant.

Mr. Lieberman’s statement is dead on. But, in reality, I counter you by stating that it is a GOOD thing that Mr. McCain is who he is, and that he stands where he stands in the political crossfire. He will be in a position to draw support from many of those still-living older democrats who USED TO occupy the “political space” that Kennedy once did (which might classify Kennedy as a “Zell Miller” democrat today).

The Republicans don’t have a prayer of keeping the White House this November without winning those votes.

- John

me too
i respect his stance on the war and terrorism but his domestic liberalism is as bad as it gets
also considering how the Dems treated him in 06 i really think he should have caucused with the Rs
on a brighter note if he is appointed a cabinet position as i suspect would be what would happen if McCain wins then we pick up a Senate seat (Governor Rendell is an R)
hopefully someone decent knowing CT you would probably get a Rino but maybe a decent one as opposed to a real Ninny like Chafee in RI

it’s like he’s a messiah.

Huh? Can you point me to any posts that present Lieberman as a 'messiah'? Sure there isn't the dislike of him that there is of Dems who would sell us down the river when it comes to Islamic facism, but 'messiah'?

Leiberman and McCain are very close in their political viewpoints. Both have America first policies in general although I believe both are too liberal for my tastes. However, I would take Leiberman over an Obama any day of the week. For those whom speculated he would be a running mate of McCain, I don’t think so. Pretty sure it will be Romney

Lieberman’s STILL a big government socialist, even though he has the right point of view on US sovereignty.

Even though?

That's the only issue that matters.

If our people decide to pursue socialism, because they believe it's in their best interest, they can change their minds later.

If they allow the country to cease to exist, they can't change that later.

Did I hit your Lieberman nerve?

The vast majority of the electorate does not know left from right. I agree.

The electorate goes where ever the best leader takes them. I am more inclined to think they go where the MSM programs them to go.

So you’re saying you can’t point me to any posts that treat Lieberman as a ‘messiah’? I didn’t think so.

“So you’re saying you can’t point me to any posts that treat Lieberman as a ‘messiah’? I didn’t think so.”

Yeah, I’ll spend the whole morning looking for the thousands of posts on FR that opine that Joe....h-m-m-m, let me see...that Joe walks on water.

Now go ahead and take that literally too.

Lieberman had his chance to make something out of his party. Instead, he chose political expedience and personal gain, both in 1998 when he voted against convicting Clinton in the Senate, and in 2000 when he ran as Gore’s flunky, and in the process made the pilgrimage to California to lick Maxine Waters’s boots, and jettison all the principles he’d previously claimed as the (phony baloney) “conscience of the Senate.” His words are merely bitterness at not being invited to stay.

The current makeup and personality of the Democrat party is the fault of Lieberman and of his fellow enablers, who knowingly took their own steps in the direction the party chose to travel, with today as the logical destination. Cry me a river, Joe.

Oh, great! The liberal extremists took over the Democrat party,
so the Gore-Clinton democrats have now co-opted the Republican party
with McCain as their new leader.

Ain’t that sweet.

Okay, so you're saying you really didn't mean to say that people on FR think of Lieberman as a messiah.

Got it.

The Republicans don’t have a prayer of keeping the White House this November without winning those votes.

McCain takes the GOP into Liberal-land and the democratic party, being more dynamic liberals, sweep the floor of the weak kneed liberals in the GOP. Sounds like a socialist plan if I ever heard one.

No, I'm with Rush. McCain is the end of the GOP as we know it. Time for the Yellow Dog democrats. Let Hillary or Obama take the blame.
