OBVIOUSLY there is less time taken to drop and cover something with your body then there is to pick it up and throw it. Try it yourself.

Drop a baseball behind you or a body length away. Drop and cover it. About 1-2 seconds max. Stoop and pick it up and throw it. At least 5 seconds unless it lands almost in your lap.

You obviously were not Combat Arms if you think it takes less time to drop and cover a grenade then it does to pick it up and throw it.
