Thank God for Barack Obama. Until his “More Perfect Union” speech last Tuesday, it seems it never occurred to anyone that America needed to talk about race.

“Maybe this’ll be the beginning of a conversation,” Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan proclaimed on Meet the Press. The Chicago Tribune reported that “many voters, black and white, say they were moved by Obama’s speech ... which they see as a long-awaited invitation to begin an honest, calm national dialogue about race.” Newspaper editorial boards agree. In the words of the San Diego Union-Tribune: “Prodding Americans to confront their racial differences is, by itself, an accomplishment of historical proportions.”

Because so many agree on this brilliant new strategy to heal our national wounds, I can only assume that I’m the one missing something. But when one luminary after another smacks his forehead like someone who forgot to have a V8 in epiphanic awe over the genius of Obama’s call for a national conversation on race, all I can do is wonder: “What on Earth are you people talking about?”

The Liberal editorial writers no more want a conversation on race that they want to see their newspapers go out of business. They want the opportunity to once again lecture and hector. They want to be the ones to outlast everyone else in the meeting and by so doing, win the argument. They want to be the Brownshirts in the streets who intimidate everyone else into submission. They want the solidarity of Fascism with their ideas the only ones permitted.

Speaking (not) of race, Shelby Steele has written a very thoughtful small book about the reasons why BO chose to identify with his blackness. Steele also has a white mother and black father, and is a generation older.

I have heard NOTHING about this book, or Steele's perspective comments from any outlet except Hugh Hewitt's show.

I don't own slaves. My parents didn't own slaves. My grandparents didn't own slaves. My GREAT grandparents didn't own slaves. And my Great, great, great, great - GREAT - grandparents didn't own slaves, so bite me.

The problems experienced by some blacks cannot be fixed by whites and would, under expanded socialism, only will grow worse. Without individual blacks taking responsibility for their own attitudes toward education, marriage and family, willingness to start at the bottom and work their way up like most everybody has to, they will remain mired in poverty and hopelessness. As long as doing well in school and behaving responsibly are viewed as derogatorily “acting white,” there will be no improvement. Failing blacks, and anyone who spits on the opportunities afforded in this great country, need to man up or shut up.

Shut Up About Race Already

Let's just announce the debate is over - we have reached a consensus.

They want to be the Brownshirts in the streets who intimidate everyone else into submission.

The only thing I would change is this: most are brownshirt wanna be's . They haven't got the guts to be real brownshirts. They hide behind their press megaphones and egg on the real brownshirts who will set half the country on fire if Barack doesn't win.

A discussion on race? O.K., all for it if it's honest. This would involve examining the views of the founder of Black Liberation Theology, James Cone. Then we would have to expose these views to a wide audience. Cone gives us a wonderfully open account of his views HERE : Ingersol Lecture 2006. Strange Fruit: The Cross and the Lynching Tree. The actual lecture starts about 8 1/2 minutes in. Whole video lasts about 90 minutes. Also, HERE is a link to a 20 minute interview of Cone wherein he gives a succinct summary of his outlook.

These links provide all one needs to know about the intellectual background of Pastor Wright. It is very scary stuff--a racialist version of gnostic hatred mixed with Marxist class warfare. To think that Obama drank in Wright's sermons and outlook is disquieting. Obama must never get near the White House. He shouldn't even be in the Senate. The guy is probably to the left of former Rep Ron Dellums.

All I can say is, thank God for YouTube! Pastor Wright will probably spent the coming years damning YouTube to Hell in his new million-dollar mansion.
