Plainly for McCain
Modern Conservative ^ | Burt Prelutsky

Posted on 03/29/2008 7:19:39 AM PDT by connell

Some mornings I wake up and, for a minute or two, I think that I must have been dreaming that there are conservatives who hate John McCain so much that, come November, they intend to stay home and let Bill Clinton’s wife or Jeremiah Wright’s surrogate nephew become president of the United States. But then I realize it’s not a dream, and that’s when the nightmare really begins.

Recently, I wrote a piece in which I stated a few of the reasons why I think McCain should be elected. I ended with a notion for a bumper-sticker: “Better an Imperfect Republican Than a Perfect Socialist”. But, still, I heard from a number of disgruntled right-wingers who vowed not to sully their principles by helping to elect a candidate they regarded as indistinguishable from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

I will repeat for the rest of you what I replied to these people. Granted, I don’t agree with Sen. McCain about amnesty for illegal aliens. But his position is no worse than that of the Democrats, and at least I’m confident that he’s opposed to the illegals having the right to vote in our elections. Democrats, as we all know, are for universal suffrage -- and that includes felons locked up in jails and people buried in cemeteries.

On the plus side of the ledger, McCain has never voted to increase taxes. Initially, he voted against Bush’s tax cuts, but that was because he wanted them tied to cuts in spending. However, when he lost that battle, he voted to make the tax cuts permanent. He is also leading the fight against earmarks.

This man, whom some conservatives regard as a RINO or even a closet liberal, is pro-life, pro...

Voting for perot was dumb. Not voting for McCain may be desperate, but it is not dumb. We have Hobson's choice between different kinds of short term pain and possible long term results ...

Thank you for putting it so well.

OK OK OK. McCain has voted against a lot of tax cuts. But how many times did he vote against these tax cuts because our "compassionate" "conservatives" "republicans" REFUSED to cut spending?

Personally, I don't want another damn tax cut until we cut SPENDING. And I want spending cuts THAT HURT. I want spending cuts that cause liberals, conservatives, "moderates", libertarians, moms, dads, kids, gays, cats and dogs to SCREAM in protest and THREATEN CIVIL REVOLT. My daughter's generation is going to end up hating our generation because hers is going to get stuck with the bill. My kid is going to carry the burden of W's "compassion" through her life.

McCain votes against tax cuts. SO TF WHAT???

I'm so sick of "tax cuts" as being a Holy Grail and Sacrament.

Oh Finny. That's all conjecture.

Honestly, I've seen so much of this "I'll teach those guys!" stuff, and so many convoluted rationalizations, that I just can't take it seriously anymore.

I'm not joining the pity party.

Of course it's conjecture, if you put it that way -- what isn't conjecture in anything about this entire thread?

You are also engaging in conjecture that if you'll pardon me, has been PROVEN faulty if only here in California, where I once voted for Schwarzenegger for the same reasons you will vote for McCain.

Honestly, I've seen so much of this "I'll teach those guys!" stuff, and so many convoluted rationalizations, that I just can't take it seriously anymore. I'm not joining the pity party.

GVnana, revenge is stupid and vain, would you agree? Self pity is a character weakness, would you agree?

If so, you fully understand that you leave the arena of political discussion and INSULT ME DIRECTLY when you accuse me of engaging in them.

"I'll teach those guys!" and "pity party" are only your interpretations. Show me ONE THING in ONE POST that I've written that leads you to belive that I'm engaging in self-pity. You cannot because I haven't done so, no more than I'm engaging in "I'll teach those guys!" I think you say these things because they make you feel you've got the upper hand. My wise Dad has helped me to identify those tactics used by people who seek to manipulate in their own favor the pschology of a situation. You don't even realize you're doing it, but you are, and I have called you on it.

And you talk about not being able to "take it seriously anymore." No wonder. You never HAVE taken it seriously. Sadly for all of us.

One of several things I hold against McCain is how he abandoned other POW/MIAs and the disdain he showed their families but hugged his former captors.

“if the philosophical differences between Barack Obama and John McCain are not obvious to you...there’s nothing I could say.”

The rhetoric the two candidates use is, of course, different. Their underlying philosophy of reliance on state power to “solve” problems is not.

“I’m voting 3rd party or I’m staying home till the Repubs get their minds right”. Yeah, that’ll show ‘em!”

I’m voting for a third party. I differ with the GOP on political strategy as well as philosophy, and I will not vote for their Presidential candidate. I encourage others to do the same.

I couldn’t care less whether this election has any impact on the GOP, or whether it does or does not “show” them anything. I don’t want the GOP to dicipher election results or read the tea leaves. I want a conservative third party to replace them.

Sounds like you are a socialist and maybe should vote for the Democrats. I am sure you won't get anymore tax cuts from them.

Look at the votes. He wasn't just against tax cuts...he wanted 60 votes in the future for anymore tax cuts. Don't get me wrong....I may still vote for McCain because the thought of the other two makes me sick but it won't be because of his stance on taxes, or his stance on global warming, or his stance on immigration, or his stance on gutanamo Bay, or....etc. etc..

Second thought, no I don't think I will vote for a backstabbing liberal.

You cut that check to McCain there Sparky.

My mind is as clear as a bell. Don’t project your self-hatred for voting for Perot onto me. With therapy, in time, you’ll come to forgive yourself.

You voted for Perot. You sent 2 grand to Fred Thompson. You’re slobbering all over McCain. A most impressive track record of supporting losers. Maybe your level of self-loathing requires more than a few years of therapy. You had better save that money you’re intending to send to McCain and apply it to the cost of your medication.

We survived 4 years of Carter. We survived 8 years of Slick Willy. We will survive 4 years of Obambi.

If McCain thinks we conservatives have nowhere else to go he is sadly mistaken. As are you.

Finny - Ditter is just lashing out in anger and projecting his frustration onto those who do not want to lick McCain’s boots. Take it easy on him.

And this is the man McCain chose for his "Hispanic Outreach Director."

Does anyone need to know anything else?

Hernandez is a certified traitor.

This guy is not only our enemy, they should have jailed him for treason long ago.

>>I was around for the Perot debacle and I heard it time and time again (Bush is not conservative enough for me I’m going 3rd party) and look what it got us, 2 terms of clinton.<<

I think it’s very possible that Perot took more votes from Clinton than he did from Bush.

Perot voters always think he took more votes from democrats than from Republicans. It makes it easier to live with Yourself.
