Wow. What a fount of ideas from Newt. Too bad he crashed and burned in politics in the 90’s. I’d almost be willing to overlook his character defects and vote for him in in the election. Heck, if he were in a primary against McCain, I’d vote for him.

But he didn’t run, probably knowing it was fruitless. But this is a good way to engage the candidates and get his ideas into circulation. May we follow his lead again, as we did in 1994.

I had to read it a couple of times, but it sure seems that Gingrich basically says, quite eloquently, Obama is full of crap.

That took a long time to watch but was worth the price of admission.

3 million people—are in prison. That is more than the entire population of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Atlanta, Detroit, and Denver combined.

Nope, bad statistics -- that's just the inner-city of those places (which does make a fairly good point, come to think of it).

Too bad he’s not running for president. If McCain gets in he ought to make Newt Sec. of State.

The Obama Challenge: What is the Right Change to Help All Americans?

1) Ban socialism and communism 2) deport all advocates

Thanks.

Good speech, but aside from some specifics on cutting taxes, the only concrete program I noticed was Guliani’s anti-crime program.

And one point not noticed was that, in the immediate post-Sputnik era, money was thrown at the problem. You did not wind up with half a lifetime of debt ifyou wantd to go into medicine, engineering or the hard sciences. Right now anyone smart enough to go into medicine or research is also smart enough to figure out that it doesn’t pay.

The speech was mainly an overview, but in case you missed it (and the speech IS long!):

What if every year you could get out earlier than twelve years became an automatic scholarship that would reduce the costs—this, by the way, would be vastly more money than Senator Obama’s $4,000—if you agree to national service. Let me just say that we would take the entire cost of your senior year and give it to you as a scholarship if you can graduate in three years. We will take the entire cost of your junior and senior year if you can graduate in two years. And by the way, if you can do calculus at the age of eleven or twelve, we will have the National Science Foundation call you, because frankly, we are not keeping up with the Chinese right now, and we need the help.

And so instead of saying, “be bored” because the state curriculum says that this morning is “boredom morning,” we would say, “learn as fast as you can, 365 days a year” and reward learning. It would be a fundamentally different model.

To the question of college education debt, I know Gingrich discusses this elsewhere. Federally subsidized students loans are becomming a form of subsidy for colleges. Instead of competing for students, they're in a position to say, "Just go get a loan."
