If you even have to ask the question, I doubt that anyone who gives you the theological and secular reasons we care about Israel would convince you. You are not in the spiritual or ideological fight, but many Americans are, and we care very much how our elected officials view Israel.
You’re probably right, but that’s true of a lot of Americans - possibly a majority. So, why should our foreign policy be based on one narrowly held view?
