Meet a "Donner Party Democrat" - Video 3/26/08
Blogs for John McCain ^ | March 27, 2008 | brianinmo

Here is a local news report in San Francisco where John McCain held a fundraiser on March 26, 2008. The report focuses on a woman who is an Obama supporter, but says she would vote for John McCain if Obama is denied the nomination -- the Democrats' worst nightmare. A recent Gallup Poll showing 28% of Hillary Clinton voters would support McCain if Obama is nominated is also discussed. These voters who would opt for John McCain if their candidate is not nominated are now being called, "Donner Party Democrats." Below is the Wiki explanation of the "Donner Party."

The Donner Party was a group of California-bound American settlers caught up in the "westering fever" of the 1840s. After becoming snowbound in the Sierra Nevada in the winter of 1846–1847, some of the emigrants resorted to cannibalism.

Too many conservatives say that McCain is liberal. These are his latest ratings, from some famous interest groups, according to www.vote-smart.org: Gun Owners of America, 100%; U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 100%; Club for Growth, 100%; Citizens Against Government Waste, 91%; John Birch Society, 90%; AFL-CIO, 7%; NAACP, 7%; NEA, 0%; and Planned Parenthood, 0%. I ran for convention delegate for Huckabee, but these facts prove that McCain isn’t liberal.

McCain’s conservative ratings are based on his earlier years.
If you only take the numbers since 2000, he is much lower rated by conservatives. You will NEVER convince a true conservative that McCain is a conservative by their definition. He may appear to be somewhat “conservative” when compared to the liberal socialists, however.

I have an anti-Republican son-in-law who will vote for McCain if Obama is nominated. His wife is an operative in the Minnesota Dem party. She's for Shrillary. She didn't say what she'd do if Obama is nominated. She in fact used to support McCain. Both have white-collar jobs.

The Dems should be very worried about Obama's nomination. The revelations about his racist pastor and his un-American wife didn't just turn off moderates and blue-collar Dems. It turned off a lot of Dems in general.

Could you explain how McCain is a democrat? Especially an equal to either Obama or Hillary? I understand that McCain does hold positions that are not too different from the democrats, but does McCain think the same as Hillary or Obama on all the issues?

We here at FR are probably overdue to have a chart laying out all the important issues that matter to the voters. That chart should include the issues along with the position of each of the candidates. So, as an example, we need to see where all 3 candidates stand on immigration, taxes, Iraq, Afghanistan, terrorism, crime, government corruption, social security, welfare, health-care, education, campaign finance reform, etc.

Don’t confuse them with facts. They have a hard on against McCain and would rather see one of the other two win.

McCain is sorta like fishing...on his worst day, he’s better than Hillary! or St. Obama at their very best.

I have a heart for the Donner Party.

Every time I fly over the mountains, or drive to North Lake Tahoe, I think of them, as my kids squabble over what DVD to watch in the comfort of the airplane and car.

Every night when I scrape down the disposal what my kids didn’t eat, I think of the Donner party, eating the rug in front of their fireplace (animal skin), boiling the bones of the family dog and eating that soup for a month.

How those people suffered. So stoic, true pioneers. The snowiest winter ever in the Sierras, even til this day I believe.

Too bad they were all farmers and there no mountain-men among them; I think I read Donner Lake was full of fish but they didn’t know how to access them through the ice.

So I think the “Donner Party Democrat” thing is kind of tacky.

No disrespect intended to the brave pioneers. I did not invent the term. It is used in the video, and is becoming a commonly used designation for what is happening in the Democratic party right now.

But thanks for the sobering reminder.

these facts prove that McCain isn’t liberal.

I believe McCain was chosen as the least likely to defeat Hillary in the general (she was the annointed-one back then) by using cross-overs in the early primaries.

Surprisingly, Barack's 'change-agent' status goes well those seeking 'change you can believe in' rather than the Clinton's day-old change that'll have to be reheated.

I named the Break Room at one company I worked ‘The Alferd Packer Memorial Lunch Room’.

The sign stayed up for months...

McCain to hold GOP Judicial Nominees if Democrat not appointed http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/705685/posts

*Ahem!* You were saying something about McCain being “conservative?”

It’s OK. It’s just such an amazing and heartbreaking story!

And to think that if they had arrived at the Sierras just one or two days earlier, they would have made it through the pass fine, with the first storm at their backs. It was an unusually early and harsh winter.

But I digress—back to Democrat cannabilism! I know one Obama supporter who hates Hillary and will vote for McCain if she is nominated. . .
