We had a local claim that defense when he was on trial for shooting his girlfriend in the face.

We have two related laws in CA.

No gun cleaning while driving.

If you rent a car at LAX and don't have a gun, they will issue you one. Does not apply to one-way rentals. Taxes and fees additional.
