S.F. supervisors propose layoffs, furlough

San Francisco's lawmakers have proposed dramatic measures to meet a huge city budget shortfall for next year, including what could be immediate layoffs for high-paid city employees and an unpaid furlough for most city employees between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

The proposals come days after three City Hall budgeting offices estimated that the deficit for next year had grown to $338 million. By law, Mayor Gavin Newsom must submit a budget with no deficit to the Board of Supervisors by June 1. The board has until the end of July to pass a final budget.

Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin requested that the city attorney and city controller draft legislation to eliminate positions of many city workers who are paid more than $150,000 in base salary.

According to data obtained by The Chronicle, San Francisco has 596 employees who earned at least $150,000 last year, including prosecutors, transit leaders, library officials and public health workers. But Peskin's proposed cuts would exclude employees whose positions are legally called for in the City Charter, the bible of local governance. It has not been determined how many of the 596 employees are protected by city law.

I don’t know how they get by on a lousy $150,000/year.

Wonder how long it'll take for the SF Libs to SUE this reporter for mentioning the hate-related word "bible" in the article...?

That’s it. Cut jobs before yo cut the free needles to druggies, and bum monthly stipend, and all the other BS PC projects. Nope jobs must go! Although, I do know most of those jobs are BS anyway. Just kind of funny watching the mentally ill lieberals muck their way through things.

Guarantee more than half of the 569 job positions were created by and for liberal democrats.

The State of California is weighed down by multiple layers of bureaucracy and red tape imposed and implemented by the Democratic leadership.

“596 employees who earned at least $150,000 last year”?
Probably 576 are worth what a guy makes every year working at a carwash.
The other twenty are probably worth much more.
Get rid of all these posers.
