The answer to this issue is trivially simple for the Democrats. They believe in polls rather than old-fashioned votes anyway - so they should simply have Gallup conduct one real big telephone poll at the time of the convention.

And the delegates should rubber-stamp the findings of that poll as published in The New York Times. Problem solved.

A meltdown seems quite probable given Democrat nostalgia to "Re-create '68".
