You get either a Republican or Democratic party ballot for all races.”

ABSOLUTELY FALSE. As an “Unaffiliated” you can vote for anyone. Besides, in the General it’s a secret ballot with everyone’s name on it. Democrats can vote for Republicans and vice versa.

No, if you choose to vote for the Democratic party presedentoal candidate, you will also get the slate for the Democratic party gubenatorial candidates. You cannot choose which party you are by individual race.

From Mecklenuburg County BOE:
How do I vote, in a Primary Election, if I am registered Unaffiliated?
When you arrive at your polling place you must choose to vote Republican, Democrat or you can decline to choose.

Republican – You may vote in the Republican races and the non-partisan races.

Democrat – You may vote in the Democratic races and the non-partisan races.

Declining to choose – You may only vote in the non-partisan races
