Delivered compliments of Oleg Antonov. Love it.
Amazing how complicated the world has become. We bash Russia for its undemocratic practices under Putin and we contract with a Russian company to deliver to us our most advanced weapons.

Shades of DIVAD.
Didn’t the Army used to have a 20mm vulcan on an M113 chassis - can’t remember the number...
The Hind was designed to shrug it off
How can I get one mounted on my roof to take care of those pesky ‘Ding Dong Ditchers’.
Interesting!
The Phalanx is nice, but the canon on the A-10 is a bit more impressive.
They want to use that in Baghdad? That sounds like a really bad idea - that’s a LOT of lead being spewed out there, and those rounds eventually come back down to earth. Baghdad is a pretty large city - I imagine those civilians downrange in the city will be getting some unpleasant lead showers.
Iraq’s getting quite bumpy agian all of a sudden...Well, Baghdad is, anyway.
OH HELL YES.
The son of one of my 1`coworkers is stationed at FOB Kalsu.
Gory bastard that I am, I can’t help wondering if it’s been modified to use against human wave attacks (and what that would be like), instead of exclusively against incoming missiles, rockets, artillery, etc? Can an operator take manual control of the Phalanx and use it against ground forces? It’d be a primo prize if the jihadis could capture it or destroy it, as unlikely as that would seem to be.
We were testing the system when I was just a young Ensign - my division owned the CIWS. We had a failure of the bolt restraining the two spacer plates on the barrels. The spacers rattled free and were shot to bits by the guns before the failsafe shut her down. The shrapnel littered the gun turret and a small piece rattled around the box and somehow came back up, got around the side protection on my ‘approved’ safety glasses and lodged in my right eye. The ships doc removed it with tweezers - it measured just shy of a full millimeter and had fortunately stuck end in so the laceration was small. My vision is still +20/20.
It's a cool piece of gear and somehow I still have a soft spot in my heart for ole R2.
Why did Russia fly our system?
