When racism in America is mentioned, I like to point out the undeniable fact: people of all colors react to class far more than to race.

For example, what do you find more threatening? An erudite black man wearing a Brooks Brothers suit in a business office, or a foul mouthed, prison tattooed, white skinhead transient? Overt racism just doesn’t compare to this.

More subtle is “associative racism”, racism not by commission, but by omission. Middle and upper class black people have worked very hard to raise themselves to a higher class, just like white people. As such, they very much appreciate the recognition of their station, and are justifiably irate when they are associated with the lower classes.

That is, unlike whites, many of whom see being ignored as a right and a reward, black people often assume it means they are being socially snubbed. White people are often puzzled about this, and think blacks are being hyper sensitive. But it is all in the interpretation.

This becomes very obvious when you see a middle class black person thanking a rather perplexed white person for treating them fairly, or actually just talking to them like the respectable people they are. They are appreciative of not being ignored or assumed to be lower class.

I still laugh when I think about the music video from the group “En Vogue”, entitled ‘Free Your Mind’. In it, they complain bitterly about how they are treated because they are black. But the great irony is that they are wearing garish clothing and hairstyles, looking more like space aliens than Earth people.

Honey, you aren’t being stared at because you are black. You are being stared at because we are half expecting to see Vulcan ears or antennae, and have no idea why anyone would dress up like that and go out in public, unless they were really into Cosplay.

I have one question remaining. What is Mr. Obama’s definition of “typical”? My advice has gone unheeded. I'll make it more clear.

“Barry, shut up and sit down on this issue. You cannot win in this “discussion”. Those of us who really, really believed in Martin Luther King and took his dream to heart have been totally pummeled into the dirt from both the white and black sides of the argument and are tired of the discussion. It has lost all meaning. It's flat-lined and there is no brain activity.

We can no longer stomach asking what would make you happy this year, or next week, or tomorrow. We can no longer support your reparations requests — we're broke. We can no longer even understand the words blacks utter for the most part. We can no longer tolerate the attacks blacks perpetrate on themselves and us — physically, legally and verbally. It's DOA, Barry. You don't have the power supply to jump start it again. Move on and lead on other issues, but cease and desist the “why can't we just get along”.

Let me further say, the Country has reached into it's bag of goodies and pulled out everything but the kitchen sink. I take that back — we threw in the kitchen sink and it still isn't enough. The Great Society has been a dramatic flop. Affirmative Action while doing more than any other program has not been a raving success. Loans, grants and special schools, designation, busing have caused untold misery on all sides. We're plum out of ideas.

The reason blacks are incarcerated at a higher level than whites is because blacks are poor, can't articulate the circumstances and unable to mount the defense needed to acquire justice. Whites who are middle-class or poor are in the same boat.

The reason blacks are poor is because they don't take advantage of the programs that are offered to get an education or, if they do, they fail to acquire the social attributes that ensure success. They mistrust ANYONE who is different and believe that there are “typical” whites. There aren't. They (like many whites) engage in risky associations that can be misconstrued as “criminal,” and have been infected with Black Liberation Theology.

I have believed, hoped and prayed for 57 years for a black somebody to stand up and make it “big time.” I guess I'll have to make it to Heaven to see it happen, because I just see more of the same old crap down here on earth.

“Loans, grants and special schools, designation, busing have caused untold misery on all sides.” Should read, Loans, grants and special schools, “desegregation,” busing have caused untold misery on all sides.
