Obama: 'This is not a crackpot church'
Politico.com ^ | 3/23/08 | Ben Smith

Carrie Budoff Brown sends over the transcript from Obama's appearance, airing tomorrow, on the Michael Smerconish Show on 1210 AM WPHT in Philadelphia, from audio the show provided.

In the interview, Obama says he's talked to Wright in the past about "some of his views," and defends Trinity, saying "This is not a crackpot church."

Smerconish is a conservative talker who's been defending Obama's race speech.

OBAMA: I will be honest with you that I didn’t have that many conversations with him over the last year just because I have been so busy. I haven't been going to church. I wasn’t hearing a lot of these comments. The ones that are most offensive are ones that I never knew about until they were reported on. I had had conversations with him in the past – in fact from the day I first met him -- about some of his views. Understand this, something else that has not been reported on enough is despite these very offensive views, this guy has built one of the finest churches in Chicago. This is not a crackpot church. Witness the fact that Bill Clinton invited him to the White House when he was having his personal crises. This is a pillar of the community and if you go there on Easter on this Easter Sunday and you sat down there in the pew you would think this is just like any other church. ... So I don’t want to suggest that somehow, the loops you have been seeing typifies the services all the time. That is the danger of the YouTube era. It doesn't excuse what he said. But it gives it some perspective.

“That is the danger of the YouTube era. It doesn’t excuse what he said. But it gives it some perspective.”

Fine, than why don’t you quote some “nice” “wholesome” things that the good reverend has said in church?

Hello?

Or were you too busy sitting in church, looking pretty, planning how you could exploit reverend Wright’s black- community-type church so that you could have the necessary “black” credentials.

And now you want “typical” white folks to make you president of the united states because you have an identity problem?

See a therapist!

America doesn’t need your disease and, ironically, neither do black American’s — nix the “Afro” tag!

You are not the sollution... you’re the problem!

Even though I vehemently disagree with Reverend Wright’s black liberation theology, at least, as my black friends used to say “we know where he’s coming from!”

Where are you “coming from” obama?

Allow me to tell you.

In your heart of hearts, viscerally — if not intellectually — you agree with reverend wright’s black liberation theology.

You believe that “white” institutions and “white” culture is holding the “brothers” back.

It’s alright, half the young white collage kids believe, more or less, the oppressive-white-man tripe that their spoiled, liberal, pony tailed professors spout from the pulpits of academia.

Or maybe they will be “fortunate” enough to get a racist black professor to teach them to feel guilty for things they had absolutely NOTHING to do with!

Now go back, senator Obama, to the wealthy estate you were able to buy in evil and oppressive “white” America.

Yeah, the YouTube generation just can’t get enough of reverend Wrights evil and oppressive (read “white”) America screed: as he waves his gold watch in our faces.

Audacity indeed!

I wasn’t familiar with some of the most offensive remarks that had come up otherwise we probably would have a more intense conversation.

Oprah may or may not have had an intense conservation with Barry's Uncle Jeremiah, but the fact is what she did with her feet speak louder than his unbelievable words.

Two more Obama clips. The end of the second clip is amazing. Obama blows his nose, and the crowd goes wild.

I paid close attention at church this morning and not once did my Pastor say anything I did not agree with.

Weird.

The way Obama was talkin’ I braced myself for an irrational hate filled racist rant against America and minorities.

Nothing but a glorious service celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Crist.

Mr. Obama, over here sir, Mr. Obama, yes, yes sir, I have a question?

I had had conversations with him in the past – in fact from the day I first met him -- about some of his views.

I thought you said:
OBAMA: You know, frankly, I didn‘t. I wasn‘t in church during the time when the statements were made. Now, I think it‘s, Keith, important to point out that he‘s been preaching for 30 years. ....

I did not hear such incendiary language myself, personally, either in conversations with him or when I was in the pew. He always preached the social gospel and was sometimes controversial in the same way that many people who‘d speak out on social issues are controversial.

But these particular statements that had been gathered are ones that I strongly objected to and strongly condemned. Had I heard them in church, I would have expressed that concern directly to Reverend Wright. So, I didn‘t familiar with these until recently.
If you never heard him make similar statements how could have had conversations with him regarding said statements and opinions?

He is either so ignorant of the fallicies of his own church’s teaching, or he is an abject liar reagarding the atrocious theology and ideology taught there. Either disqualifies him for the office he seeks.

he is an abject liar ...

See post 66. I'm popping more popcorn as his lies are changing almost daily now. I just hope the Conservative press will notice the changes in his denials and publicize them loudly.

No it is a racist church. No different than the Phelps gang. Hate is hate. If a typical whitey said the things “Dr. Wright” said the church would be burned to the ground by now and he would be in jail for hate crimes.

"This is not a crackpot church."

Leftists have an uncanny ability to live in a "lie world" of ideological constructs. IMO, Barack is lying. I'll grant however that once you enter the hothouse world of gnostic constructs and live there for 20 years, it's hard to tell reality from ideology.

I don’t see much difference. Phelps is about Phelps and Wright is about Marx but basically they’re both politically oriented purveyors of hate. WBC will never grow much beyond the Phelps whelps but Black Liberation Theology (aka racist based Marxism) is already widespread. More than most of had any idea.

Well it sure is coming out now. I am boycotting that Oprah too. Notice how quiet she has been? Unless I haven't noticed her standing up & saying this Rev is wrong ....I would think she would be ashamed to be linked to that Rev too. I don't like her either, not one bit & never have.

I have a theory that the 90-10 breakdown of Blacks voting Democrat is reflected in a similar 90-10 breakdown of Blacks that attend a Black Liberation type of church versus Blacks that attend a church that has a more orthodox Christian message.

'This is not a crackpot church'

This statement is a whole lot more convincing, when you don't have to actually say it.

I've been wondering that myself. Various versions of the same shot have been circulating, but this one caught my eye because of the other person present.

Honestly, I suspect photoshop.

>>Smerconish is a conservative? How so? He defends Specter all the time too.

If he is a conservative, John McCain is the reincarnation of President Ronald Reagan.

I sent him an e-mail once, advising him to stop taking vacations. Everytime he came back, he was more Liberal. I don’t listen to him (or his hi-pitched sidekick, “Dr. Maz”)anymore.
