Tibetan monk speaks out
BBC ^ | Friday, 21 March 2008 | Michael Bristow

Posted on 03/21/2008 8:17:57 PM PDT by fishhound

Police are searching for Tibetans who took part in demonstrations in Hezuo in China's Gansu Province, according to a monk who lives in the town.

He also told the BBC that the protests were started by school pupils after they heard about the protests in Lhasa, the capital of the Tibetan Autonomous Region.

But the monk added that he did not agree with the violence - from either Tibetans or the Chinese government - and did not support Tibetan independence.

Hezuo is in Gansu's Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. There has been major unrest in the area since last Saturday.

The BBC has just left the town, which has been taken over by the Chinese military. Soldiers armed with assault rifles stood guard on approach roads.

This is the price of Globalism, and some short sighted policies, we can’t do a thing physically anyway.

The ChiComs are even going after Catholics, and all we can do is tutt tutt tutt..

......He added that he agreed with the Dalai Lama, the leader of Tibetans in exile, who says he wants more autonomy for Tibet, not independence.

"It doesn't matter whether Tibet is independent or not, as long as Tibetans live in happiness," he said.

Protesters in Gannan have been given until midnight on 25 March to hand themselves in to the authorities, according to a notice posted in Hezuo.

Those who turn themselves in will be treated leniently, those who do not will be dealt with harshly, the notice added.

The local government has promised protection and rewards for those who turn in protesters, people China says are criminals.

I just found it. Thank you both for pinging me.

This monk's desire for peace is good but I don't think he's seeing things very clearly if he thinks, after 58 years, the Chinese will ever stop trying to destroy Tibetan culture and the people themselves.

The BBC has just left the town, which has been taken over by the Chinese military

But they'll let NPR in there for Daniel Schorr to eulogize the Chinese Government in a few days for their fair minded handling of the situation.

They are very confused. They have been brainwashed, not just by communists, also because of thousands of years’ slavish history and oppression

This Tibetan monk is typical of people living there. They don’t know what true freedom is. They would rather live on their knees than die on their feet.

The monk represents many people in China who would rather live in peace on their knees than die standing up straight against the B.S. government. “Peace and stability” are what the CCP government calls for. It’s their typical propaganda. So you think the monk just followed the propaganda with his clear and free own will?

I think everyone makes their own free will choices. But I think some Buddhist practitioners have their own reasons for taking the view that violence is not the best way. This monk is taking the same view as the Dalai Lama. I don’t agree with it.

Actually, certain religious creeds and cultural norms enslave and disable people there too. Not just communism.
