Judith Anne-Post 46: Any idea how much money is devoted to research for a CURE for lung cancer, vs a CURE for HIV?

AK: No reply.

metmom post 74 Gee, Judith Anne, you accused him of being gay? I looked but didn’t see that. Where did that happen?

AK: No reply.

Judith Anne post 106 Who said that? Name somebody.

Judith Anne post 107 Got a link? Got a post number?

AK: No reply.

Judith Anne post 148 Any idea how many in the US, where all the fuss is, are living with HIV?

AK: No reply.

metmom post 198 Bigger than cancer? Diabetes? Malaria? TB? Dysentary? Let's see some data to support that statement.

AK: No reply.

metmom post 245 Maybe you could verify those figures.Maybe you could provide sources to back up all the other statements you've made that people have asked for sources for and you've ignored.

AK: No reply.

Just so we're clear about what I'm asking for....What figures? The figures you keep spouting about how many people have AIDS, where they live, how many people have died from it, how many deaths that have orphaned children. All the numbers that are verified to have come from AIDS/HIV.

What are your sources? Where are you getting the numbers? How do you know they're accurate?

I avoid posters such as Alter Kaker as I do the plague (pun intended).

I did reply and that's not a "uncited source." I have said repeatedly that I don't know anything about disease research funding. That issue has been brought up repeatedly, and I given the same answer at least twice on this thread. This is the third time.

Gee, Judith Anne, you accused him of being gay? I looked but didn’t see that. Where did that happen? AK: No reply.

Again, I've answered that in another post. #54, Judith Anne said that I was always pushing the "GLBT, Rainbow position," which is a super secret way of implying that I'm a homosexual.

Well, by definition prioritizing of diseases is somewhat subjective. More people worldwide for instance have malaria, but fewer die than from AIDS. Looking at WHO data, for example, HIV/AIDS comes in as the #2 killer, behind "lower respiratory diseases," a catchall that describes a wide variety of different conditions that mainly contribute to infant mortality.

Ok, I'll answer each of those.

1. How many people have HIV/AIDS.

By definition this has to be a fairly rough estimate, with numbers differing depending on the source, because HIV tests are expensive and most people with HIV don't know they're infected. I cited a 40 million figure, which was what a 2006 study suggested. In looking into your question, I discovered that the latest research (The 2007 AIDS Epidemic Update published December, 2007) jointly by UNAIDS and the World Health Organization estimated that 33.2 million people worldwide are HIV+. The Update is the closets thing we have to an authoritative source, and its figures are used and cited by the White House, the CDC, the NIH, etc. Source. The same study breaks down HIV/AIDS cases by region and country -- of those 33.2 million, 15.4 million are women, and 2.5 million are children under the age of 15. The study found that AIDS is the leading cause of death in sub-Saharan Africa.

how many deaths that have orphaned children.

The same study estimated that there are between 10.5 and 14.6 million children in sub-Saharan Africa who have been orphaned by AIDS.
