Somebody Was Snooping in Obama's Passport File? (More Clinton connection questions)
The National Review ^ | March 20, 2008 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 03/20/2008 9:27:02 PM PDT by cdchik123

A weird campaign cycle gets even weirder - three State Department contract employees have been caught nosing around in Barack Obama's passport file. Two were fired, one was disciplined. The first breach was on January 9; the inspector general is launching an investigation.

~snip~

A little while back, the Hillary campaign — specifically Lee Feinstein, the campaign's national security director, asked a question:

As voters evaluate you as a potential Commander-in-Chief, do you think it's legitimate for people to be concerned that you have traveled to only one NATO country, on a brief stopover trip in 2005, and have never traveled to Latin America?

I remember hearing their charge that Obama had only visited one NATO country in his life and it seemed pretty hard to believe... out of countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Turkey, etc., Obama had only been to one? The boy who grew up in Indonesia, and visited relatives in Africa, never made it to any of those European countries? The guy who lived in Chicago and went to Harvard never made it to Canada? (I presume Canada wasn't the site of the brief stopover trip.)

Now, I'm not saying that the Hillary camp did the snooping in the passport file. But in asking that question, they seemed awfully certain that Obama had never been to one of those countries earlier in his life, didn't they?

How did the Clinton bunch find out about any of this? Did they snoop in his passport file?

Oh, make it so.

Particularly since Obama is blaming Pres. Bush, like he has control over civilians working with a company contracted to work for the gov't

There may not be a connection and it could be a coinkidink, but, hmmmmmmm. Would a woman who has wanted to be president most of her life, even to staying with a philandering husband she thinks owes her big time and can get her there, do something like this?

How many Clinton faithfuls are still at the State Dept and would have access to this stuff? It IS Bush’s fault for not firing all those traitor holdovers from the Clinton Administration!

If Obama really wants to be bold and use this to attack the Clintons, he should loudly compare this to the time that Linda Tripp's employment application was leaked to the press by Clinton Pentagon officials.

The MSM would have to report the Tripp incident, and the punishment (or not) of Ken Bacon. That would bring back the Lewinski affair, the heavy hand of the Clinton White House, and plant the idea that it's starting all over again.

Obama just has to make sure that the MSM doesn't try to make this about the "Bush State Department" instead of "Clinton hold-overs in the State Department."

Remember Hillary's challenge to Obama (Mar. 12 Huffington Post: "You need to answer these questions"), asking, among other things: "As voters evaluate you as a potential Commander-in-Chief, do you think it's legitimate for people to be concerned that you have traveled to only one NATO country, on a brief stopover trip in 2005, and have never traveled to Latin America?"

Uh oh

This list of questions was apparently released just last week - Lynn Sweet’s blog posting was dated March 12, 2008. How did the Clintonistas have such confidence that Obama has been to only one NATO country and to no countries in Latin America???? Unless his campaign had released a list of all countires he has traveled to (which seems most definitely NOT to have come from his campaign!!), how could the Clintonista campaign have any confidence that they knew exactly what his travel history might be??? It does seem likely that it was a Clintonista op-research project to snoop in Obama’s passport files, else they never could have asserted with such confidence that he had been to only one NATO country?? [but how would State Dept. files list all countries someone has been too when there might be plenty of stamps in the current passport that the State Dept. files would not reflect? I don’t know what the State Dept. would have except any passport applications plus any old passports turned in when one applies for a new one - but passports are valid for 10 years so Obama might have up to 10 years of stamps in his current passport in his possession, depending upon when he last needed a new PP]

Well, I for one am willing to give Hillary the benefit of the doubt. After all, has she ever been involved in dirty politics and snooping on people's private files before? Ever?

Oh. Oh, yeah. Never mind.

Jim Garrison: I never realized Kennedy was so dangerous to the establishment. Is that why? X: Well that's the real question, isn't it? Why? The how and the who is just scenery for the public. Oswald, Ruby, Cuba, the Mafia. Keeps 'em guessing like some kind of parlor game, prevents 'em from asking the most important question, why? Who benefited? Who has the power to cover it up? Who?

(Words (from "JFK") well remembered at a time like this, in provocative Washington D.C. cases like "Passportgate")
