I’ve never had a real philly cheesesteak from Philly... I’ll be they test better than what we have here. (I’m in Kansas)
Make sure to get cheez whiz when you go
Geno’s is the “Right” Deli, Pat’s across the street is the “Left” Deli. BTW the thug that attacked them in Dec has been arrested.

My wife, born in Philly, introduced me to the Philly Cheesestake sandwich over thirty years ago greatest meal on a roll in the world. ;-)
I think it’s overrated (Geno’s and Pat’s). They’re good steak sandwiches but not the best I ever had. There’s a few other places in South Philly with better ones imo.
I was working on staff with our PanAm Basketball trials near Villanova last summer. The locals took us to a place off Conestoga Ave that was a small shop...it had WONDERFUL Philly’s. Better than anything I’ve had in CO.
"sigh"

I'm guessing you haven't enjoyed a real Philly hoagie, either. A friend of mine moved from PA to CA 35 years ago. We grew up in Philadelphia. She found one shop in the San Jose area which makes a good hoagie, but the rolls don't meet the test.
I recall one of the frequent times she came back to visit...and what she loaded up on to take home.
Hoagies, Tasty-Kakes (not available there) and scrapple! She took a big bag filled with these favorites onto the plane when she left.
