while the Grannies will knit outside the recruiters office!

Take Action in the Nation’s Capital!

Today has been an extraordinary day! It’s not too late to call in sick of 5 years of war! Join us!

March 19th offers a unique opportunity for our movement to grow after 5 years of war. We know there are key pillars of support that enable this illegal and immoral war for oil and global domination to continue. On March 19th we will take nonviolent direct action to disrupt each of these key pillars in Washington DC and in communities across this country. In what we hope will be an unprecedented day of collective action and solidarity we will take a variety of actions over a 24-hour period to commemorate 5 years of war.

Our actions will begin on Tuesday, March 18 at 5:00 pm with Sound the Alarm at Union Station. Take 30 minutes for peace in this exciting and creative action! We will gather 2 blocks away @ 5:00 pm at 400 N Capitol St.From there we will move in small groups or as individuals into the designated area. All at once we will freeze in place for 5 minutes. When we move again, we will step forward using our voices in a call to the people to Rise Up – End the War. Leafleting for Wednesday will follow.Check out Frozen Grand Central to see a cool video of what this can look like!

Wednesday, March 19th will begin early with a Public Assembly at 7:30 AM in McPherson Square (15th and K St.) with information about the day and how to plug in. At 8 AM some groups will blockade the IRS, others will shut down war profiteers in the K St. Corridor, No War No Warming will be calling for a separation of oil & state at the American Petroleum Institute, while the Grannies will knit outside the recruiters office! At the same time, the March of the Dead will begin in Arlington Cemetery and process through downtown. At 9 AM the Veterans March for Peace will begin with several stops, culminating with actions near the White House and Veterans Administration. At noon, students will dance in the streets saying Funk the War and exposing war profiteers, recruiters and media along the way. There will also be a demonstration of waterboarding outside the White House in the mid-afternoon.

Imagine thousands of us moving throughout the streets in Downtown DC, in big groups and small, all working to expose, disrupt and transform those that are promoting and profiting from war.

That’s the New SDS (you know the group the Weathermen bombers were part of) site. They are doing their thang tomorrow. There is a list of “participating schools”, including high schools at the link.
