Lets not forget that when the Sixth Army surrendered at Stalingrad, approximately one-quarter of the hard physical equipment in the German Army was lost. Eighteen months later, the stuff had been replaced, but the loss of one hundred thousand men (as prisoners) and who knows how many dead and wounded could never be made up.
