I couldn't resist visiting the DU website to see the reactions. It is above all, pathetic to read the posts by the mindless supporters of this guy. To them, it's all about how intelligent and well spoken Obama is. It's all about how true the message is in the speech he gave. How it made them cry it was so in tune with America and racism.

It was a good speech, and Obama is in fact a very intelligent man. These are good human qualities. And yes, he has an interest in pushing this mindset, he is in fact, a black man. So what?

However, I did no see one single post that dug up the root issue and addressed it. That is, how could anyone sit in church every Sunday with this man for 20 years and not be sympathetic to his views. If Obama is in fact as intelligent as we all think, and he truly disagree with the Rev Wright, how could he justify taking his young and easily influenced children to listen to this tirade along with his wife? I thought he was more intelligent and evolved than that !

"For the first time in my life, I am proud of America"

Do we all remember those statement by his wife? What do you suppose were her underlying opinions of America and white people if she were making a statement like this? Knowing now what kind of sermon she listened to every week, what can we derive from these bits of information and seemingly inconsequential statements? And why would her husband, who sits right next to her in church every Sunday, think any differently?

We can write off Obama's refusal to pledge allegiance with his hand on his heart and we can discount his flat refusal to wear the standard lapel pin. But now that this is all public, can we come to any rational conclusions when we put all the information together? Although this conclusion would not hold up in a court as solid evidence, we all know what it adds up to, and in a campaign, we aren't required to reach a level of reasonable doubt and provide DNA evidence. You just have to have enough common sense and life experience to be able to reduce this all to it's true meaning. Personally, I believe Obama is a closet racist himself. I think he is surely sympathetic to the reverends views and at least in part, believes them himself.

He will continue to get the support of the black community because they know he can never be elected unless he also straddles the fence in order to lure in the moderate vote. They are willing to give him a pass on this for the sake of getting elected, but they know who he really is and what the other Obama feels.

The posts I read at DU are embarrassing. Almost every one of these people took the bait, and have now totally digested it and produced the exact response that Obama intended. They were distracted from the truth and real meaning of this entire fiaco, it was swept under the rug and now they just have to wait for it to fade.

Unfortunately for them, I don't think this is going to happen, this is an albatross that even Bill Clinton couldn't shake, in my humble opinion.

Good post. I agree. As I said in post #21--Senator B. (whose middle name must NEVER be spoken Obama's speech was,,,,

"ELOQUENT, BUT OUTRAGEOUS"!!!!<.b>

First, he proved himself to be a blatant liar! He had claimed prior to this speech that he had only heard one or two comments. Now he admits he DID attend some of those racists rants. HE IS BY HIS OWN WORDS--A LIAR.

Second, he refused to disassociate himself from Wright. That in itself is outrageous.

Third, he attempted to defend Wright's comments by asking everyone to put Wright's comments in the "BLACK PERSPECTIVE"!! That is absolutely outrageous--and it is an indirect endorsement (back door) of the hate and venom that was spewed there and other black churches.

Fourth, he insulted everyone listening by saying that he could not disassociate himself from his GRANDMOTHER--therefore, he could not disassociate himself from his Pastor either. How outrageous can you possibly get?

I guess that Obama has never heard the phrase, "YOU CAN PICK YOUR FRIENDS--YOU CANNOT PICK YOU FAMILY"!

The entire speech was "ELOQUENT, BUT OUTRAGOUS"!--basically telling the white community, "That's just the way black churches are--I am NOT disavowning my friendship with a blatant racist--so DEAL WITH IT"!
