In addition to the fact his father is a muslim from Kenya, That would give him at least a good chance of being descended from the very slave traders who captured and sold the blacks into slavery in the first place. Hell African muslims continue to sell Africans into slavery today.

The slaves from the west of Africa were the ones purchased from tribal leaders and brought to America.
