(IsraelNN.com) Jewish U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Officer Brian Israel, a border officer on the Canadian-American border is sueing the US Border Patrol after years of anti-Semitic abise.
According to VIN News, "Officer Israel was subjected to anti-Semitic activity almost immediately [upon being hired ten years ago]. He found swastikas and Waffen SS lighting stripes on his locker, and was regularly sent out by his management to clear 'his people' when the 'smelly Jew Bus' (typically vehicles operated by Heiman's Bus Service or other companies from Brooklyn) [arrived]."
The report continues: "Though Israel is a life-long public servant with stints in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Treasury Police and U.S. Federal Air Marshal Service under his belt, and the recipient of various awards, citations, commendations and medals for his military and federal law enforcement service, that didn't stop him from getting fired in July 2007 based on two 2005 incidentsone in which even fellow officers testified that Israel was in the right after being assaulted by a Canadian traveler, and a second, more ominous event in which a violent Algerian national who was a security threat destroyed a border radiation detector by driving his car into it at 70 miles an hour. Both cases led to Israel's dismissal for 'excessive force,' with even the government not denying that a file of the worthy officer's list of blatant anti-Semitic experiences at his comrades' hands does exist."
Officer Israel, a religious Jew and son of Holocaust survivors, says that the only reason he was fired is because he constantly complained against his supervisors for the continuous anti-Semitic remarks. His court case, which has cost him $80,000 in legal fees, will end with a verdict on March 31st, 2008.
One fact seems curious to me; his fellow officers stood up and testified on his behalf in the case of the Algerian terrorist, er, I mean speeder. If his fellow officers were all anti-Semetic bastards, they would have remained silent.
(Of course, the force could have been divided among good and bad apples.)
Those events are clearly over-the-top.
They go beyond the pretty harsh mutual ribbing (including in sensitive things, like religion, race, creed, and size of ears), which are part of the “esprit de corps” of any military or para-military (like the border guard) organization.
I got in one fist fight in the Army, and it was over some fellow soldiers (one who much later ended up being in my wedding, married my cousin he met there, and converted to Judaism!) getting drunk and doing nazi salutes.
They thought they were being funny, but we worked it out in the back of the barracks.
Sounds like Eric Cartman is involved.
Considering the US Army once (and maybe still?) believed in the "Protocols of Zion" and that the US State Department labeled Israel an "non-traditional adversary" I can believe it to.
No matter how many Judaeo-philic Biblical Fundamentalists live in the US they never seem to get represented in the govt. (our current President is the primary example).
I am always suspicious of substandard employees who file these types of cases. How many times have we seen that the victim was actually the perpetrator looking to either cash in or deflect criticism.
In this case the issue of his removal has nothing to do with the alleged anti-Semitic activity unless you want to believe in conspiracy theories.
There is not enough info here to render a judgment but something does not smell right as he waited until after he was fired to file the action. I am thinking sour grapes. If I am wrong I hope he wins.
“substandard employees “
But that’s just it, he wasn’t a “substandard employee”. There’s nothing about that in the article except that he was dismissed for excessive use of force in two instances that look highly questionable in terms of his superiors choosing to drop the hammer on him instead of the bad guy. Since his history of complaints dates from the 90’s, this looks much more like they fired him on a pretext, rather than him suing them on a pretext. Believe me, I hate it when people cry anti-Semitism or racism or whatever over nothing or trifles, but your interpretation of the facts presented frankly doesn’t make sense.
As is typical in these types of articles we are only getting one side, the employees. If he had been wrongly terminated he would have sued for that and not this hostile work environment type of case.
False allegations of abuse are a real problem for all LEOs, however based solely on the article it appears that this agent was investigated for the first abuse allegation and determined to be at fault and received disciplinary action. He there after was investigated for engaging in the same kind of serious misconduct, determined to be at fault and was terminated.
Thats why I referred to him as a substandard employee. In the LEO world one screw-up can negate all the atta-boys you built up over your career. Two screw ups for the same infraction is often terminal.
