Ron Paul's Missouri supporters take charge of weekend county caucuses

Ron Paul’s Missouri supporters aren’t giving up.

Despite his distant fourth-place finish in the state’s presidential primary, with just 4.5 percent of the vote, more than a thousand Paul supporters crowded into Republican county caucuses last weekend, electing hundreds of delegates to upcoming congressional district and state conventions.

I understand many of you think Paul would surrender overseas but then you seem to advocate folding like a cheap suit to the MSM candidate. I say fight on.

The problem is Paul surrenders on both fronts. Not only is he for tucking tail everywhere else, he is against military and guard defense of the border. He isn't much different than McCain on immigration issues from his history- only some recent statements to appeal to the border security crowd.

Paul has always been a stand-up supporter of immigration enforcement. I challenge you to cite a single open-borders proposal he supported.

McCain (say it proudly, our Republican candidate for President of the United States), meanwhile, co-wrote one with Kennedy. God knows what he will do when he no longer needs to even pretend he’s a real Republican.

It was established early on that you’re only using Ron Paul threads for entertainment. It’s kind of like the “bananna” word game with “paleo”. Stone waste of time, doesn’t mean squat, but it’s kind of fun.

Not going to affect the nomination.

I doubt they can do it, but if they were better organized and there were more of them, they certainly could. The delegates that go to the convention are, in many cases, determined by the delegates from the caucuses and not the primary. If McCain does not get enough pledged delegates, then the delegates chosen could vote as they please after the first round. He does not have enough pledged delegates yet, but with Huckabee gone now too, it is a matter of time.

Oh I so love a challenge, especially an easy one. No rewriting history needed.

Let's look at Paul's immigration record why don't we? (some of the YouTube videos have been buried by Paulvestites who don't want them seen, so you'll need a log-in to view them.)
If a State wants to treat them like a citizen and give them free education and free school, that is their issue...

..calls for a more generous immigration policy

Ron Paul votes YES (radio interview) oops.. you'll love this one

Illegals are more American than us

Illegal immigration isn't important

..and of course, instead of rhetoric, let's go back to votes:
I am sure his voting record is "taken out of context" or it is a "neocon conspiracy"....Read the facts.

Paul's Immigration Voting Record & Report Card on the NumbersUSA website:

(1) Paul consistently voted every year since 1999 against putting the military on the border:

2006: H. Amdt. 206 to H.R. 1815 2004: Goode Amendment to H.R. 4200 2003: Goode Amendment to H.R. 1588 2002: H. Amdt. 479 to H.R. 4546 2001: Traficant amendment to HR 2586 2000: Traficant amendment to H.R.4205 1999: Trafficant Amendment to H.R. 1401.

(2) Paul voted in 1997, 2001( H.R. 1885) and 2002 (H RES 365) to grant, extend or continue Section 245-i amnesties for illegal aliens.

(3) Paul voted NO on extending the voluntary Basic Pilot Workplace Verification Program (H.R. 2359),

(4) Paul voted NO on the border fence in 2005 (Hunter Amendment to HR 4437 - “Enforcement Only” Bill).

(5) Paul voted YES to increase H2-B (HR 763 in 2005) and H-1B visas (HR 3736 in 1998). In 1998, he voted to allow US firms to lay off Americans to replace them with foreigners.
TAKE NOTE:

(2) Paul voted in 1997, 2001( H.R. 1885) and 2002 (H RES 365) to grant, extend or continue Section 245-i amnesties for illegal aliens.

Everyone needs a reminder of some of Pauls BAD immigration votes.

Especially Item #2. This was an amnesty and allowed for chain migration, more visas, blah, blah, and one reason it has gotten as bad as it has. It was pushed by the White House.

H.R.3525 Title: To enhance the border security of the United States, and for other purposes. (introduced 12/19/2001) Related Bills: H.RES.365, H.R.1885, H.R.3205, S.CON.RES.106, S.1618, S.1749 Latest Major Action: Became Public Law No: 107-173 [GPO: Text, PDF] Note: On 3/12/2002, H.Res. 365 was agreed to by the House. H.Res. 365 incorporated the text of H.R. 3525, the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act, in H.R. 1885, previously the Section 245(i) Extension Act dealing with certain immigration petition filing deadlines. Subsequent action on border security returned to H.R. 3525.

http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d107:HR03525:

The White House [snip]

H.R. 1885 - Section 245(i) Extension Act The Administration strongly supports House passage of H.R.1885 as expected to be considered on the House floor. H.R. 1885 would extend the window created under section 245(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act during which qualified immigrants may obtain legal residence in the United States without being forced to first leave the country and their families for as long as several years. This legislation reflects the Administration's philosophy that government policies should recognize the importance of families and help to strengthen them.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/legislative/sap/107-2/HR1885-h.html

also:

Rep. Paul is a cosponsor of H.R. 793, the Save Our Small and Seasonal Business Act of 2005, to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to limit the timing of issuance of H-2B visas during a fiscal year. Specifically, H.R. 793 would split the H-2B visa cap so no more than 33,000 visas are made available for the first six months the fiscal year, and another 33,000 visas would be available in the second half of the year. However, H.R. 793 exempts from the annual cap aliens granted an H-2B visa within three years prior to approval of an H-2B petition, thus potentially TRIPLING the number of H-2B workers in the United States at any one time. Although timing the issuance of H-2B visas is a common-sense approach that would help prevent the situation that occurred in FY 2004 and FY 2005 when the 66,000 annual cap on H-2B (low-skill) nonimmigrant visas was hit within the first quarter of the year, H.R. 793 would ultimately harm American workers by creating exemptions which potentially could triple the number of H-2B workers in the U.S. at any given time. Nearly doubled H-1B foreign high-tech workers in 1998

and

Voted on House floor against Hunter amendment to increase security with border fence in 2005 Rep. Paul voted against the Hunter Amendment to H.R. 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005. The Hunter Amendment would shore up security by building fences and other physical infrastructure to keep out illegal aliens. Specifically, it mandates the construction of specific security fencing, including lights and cameras, along the Southwest border for the purposes of gaining operational control of the border. As well, it includes a requirement for the Secretary of Homeland Security to conduct a study on the use of physical barriers along the Northern border. The Hunter Amendment passed by a vote of 260-159.

Now tell me honestly, if you replaced Paul's name with any other R, and saw this record versus what he wrote, what would you say about him?

The delegates that go to the convention are, in many cases, determined by the delegates from the caucuses and not the primary.

If they have enough delegates from the caucuses to the next level then they may can impact the process at some point. All 58 of MO delegates are bound to the statewide winner but for how many rounds of voting I don’t know. The delegates are selected by the CD convention and the state convention and allocated as follows:

Saturday 15 March 2008: Republican Caucuses meet.
Saturday 19 April 2008: Republican Party Congressional District Conventions elect the 27 district delegates.
Friday 30 May - Sunday 1 June 2008: Missouri State Republican Convention elects 10 at-large and 18 bonus delegates.

He’s opposed to amnesty, but in favor of plea bargains for illegals. One of my favorites.

I guess his opposing amnesty is like his opposing earmarks. He voted for it back in 2001. Chalk it up to another, he was for it before he was against it before he was for it before he was against it. Are we still talking about Paul or John Kerry?

I appreciate you taking a Paulite seriously enough to provide this detailed rebuttal to my careless post. As to what I would say if any other Republican had this record - I would say he’s a country mile ahead of McCain, who is now the Republican standard-bearer and who will be President if we don’t get Obama or Clinton.

Many here assume Ron Paul supporters landed here from Mars (or worse, Berkeley) with the goal of destroying the Republican party. I can’t speak for others, but I am a lifelong Republican who has been forced to a painful conclusion: government incompetence doesn’t stop at the water’s edge. Unnecessary meddling in other countries’ affairs (as opposed to legitimate defence needs) by Republicans only invites the same by Democrats.

I see no reason to accede to the MSM’s selection of McCain. If Hunter supporters would stand up I would be glad to support him (ditto for a few other candidate) but the only people I see fighting on are Paulites.

And for the life of me I can’t see the logic of fighting the terrorists there and leaving our borders wide open. The World Trade Center wasn’t located in Iraq, Afganistan or even in Iran.

I like this part;

Selecting the Immigration/Border Security issue as my yardstick for evaluating whether Congressman Paul's positions were well-founded and realistic doesn't make me a "one-issue" voter. <\b>

If basing everything on one issue doesn't make you a "one issue voter", what does?

The Republican Party, whatever its imperfections, IS the Republican Party. Paleomoonbattism is paleomoonbattism. May the two never coincide. If paleoPaulie and his political love slaves are an example of small r republicanism, no thanks now or ever.

So you're promising me right now that you will not bitch and moan when "paleomoonbats" like me get drunk on Election Day rather than vote for your boy McCain and Obama rapes him in the general?

Interesting, a while back I posted this as McCain's record just as a test (I replaced Paul's name w/ McCains and House w/ Senate) and everyone was all over it w/ the typical Amnesty/selling out your country comments ...

For the most part it does appear they did and that is their goal. They aren’t Republicans, they’re “libertarian”, switch voters from the Dimmies and your run of the mill repeal the drug laws moonbats. I haven’t seen “normal” Paul supporters anywhere, especially in Missouri.

And it isn’t “unnecessary” meddling to fight the Muslim extremists over there as opposed to fighting them here. England, France, Spain etc are proof enough of that.

Ron Paul hasn’t said or done anything to inspire confidence in me and don’t give me the repetitious refrain of “he supports the Constitution”, he supports his interpretation of it to his own ends.

First, Ron Paul hasn’t officially dropped out of the running... yet.

Second, how did the first American Revolution start? It sure wasn’t by a ten-thousand man army suddenly standing up and shooting a similar number of Red-coats. It was by a few dedicated patriots (that’s what we call ‘em now) making a lot of noise in small gatherings and eventually convincing more and more fence-sitters to become patriots too. Maybe- just maybe, if we’re lucky, in two hundred years these “moonbats” (as some call ‘em) will also be known as “patriots.”

Third, McCain is old and unwell. Who will be left if he suddenly drops dead? Fred’s dead. Huck’s... Well, he’s out too and Romney has already lost. Stranger things have happened.
