Slaveowners have been dead at least 75 years so it’s irrelevant.

Your ancestor went to war to stop the South from seceding.

The North did not invade the south to stop slavery before secession when they could have had slavery been their primary motivation.

but you have a point....the end result was the preserving the Union and ending slavery

What has Barack Hussein Obama done to denounced slavery in Sudan? Or Saudis in America who are caught owning slaves?

In the interest of brevity I was ignoring the nuances you point out. However, I will still disagree with you.

I look at it this way: The Republican party was formed as an abolitionist party. When a Republican got elected president, the southern states saw that the die had been cast and that things had changed, and they seceded. So, while the reason for the war was secession, it is also clear that the republican's desire to end slavery caused the secession to happen.
