Wrong!

If I recall, he was Sentenced to death and was serving his time on death row but California abolished the Death penalty in ‘73 and his sentence was converted to life.

There was a death penalty at the time; Manson and at least one or two of his followers were sentenced to death- it was a year or so later that the death penalty was repealed and their sentences became life sentences. It would be ironic if Manson were to be tried for another murder now and end up executed. It’s not likely since evidence will be tough after all these years and prosecutor may not be inclined to open a new can of worms with the defendent already locked up for life.

Manson got the death penalty, the Supreme Court of California reduced it to life when the state temporarily eliminated the death penalty. So the murders did occur when the state had the death penalty.

The "country" never had a death penalty and California did have one back in the day.

nope the murders occured when the country did not have a death penalty. I thought that there was a death penalty then. The family got the death penalty and their sentences were commuted to life when the death penalty was overturned.
