PESHAWAR — Al Qaeda has confirmed killing of its nine leading commanders during fighting against the US-led forces and bomb explosions in southern parts of Afghanistan in the recent past.

"Majority of these people have been killed in Zabul province, bordering Pakistan," said Al Qaeda spokesman Ahmad Salman in a statement, received by this scribe yesterday.

Those killed included two Pakistani nationals affiliated to Al Qaeda and four Saudis. The remaining ones belonged to Kuwait, Tajikistan and Turkey.

Ahmad Salman said that a couple of days back a severe clash took place in Zabul province, which caused precious lives to Al Qaeda and Taleban. Similar clashes took place in Helmand and Kandahar provinces of Afghanistan.

Those killed were identified as Abu Anas, Abu Abdullah Al Asmi, Shuaib Sahrayee and Abu Masaab Al Tami from Saudi Arabia, Khalid and Nauman from Pakistan, Abu Zaki from Kuwait, Jafar from Tajikistan and Abu Musa from Turkey.

Ahmad Salman while disclosing the names of killed persons requested their family members "don’t wait for them anymore. All these nine persons are no more in this world."

He said that killed persons have been laid to rest in various parts of Afghanistan.

Salman also said that Al Qaeda and Taleban are going to intensify resistance in summer.
