Military families warned of weekend war protest

TACOMA, Wash. – Local military families are being advised to avoid the Tacoma Mall March 15 as local groups plan to protest the Iraq War.

The group "World Can't Wait" is organizing protests at a recruiting station near the mall to mark the fifth anniversary of the war.

But warnings to stay away have been going out to military families for days now - including one from Fort Lewis seeking to prevent a clash between protestors and military families.

Maggie Loveless, a spokesperson for the World Can't Wait, says this is going to be a big, non violent protest designed to shut the recruiting center down.

"Military recruiters are indoctrinating people They're luring young people in. College students, high school students. In particular poor and minority students," she said. "Into their military to commit war crimes."

Today is the day. Please If you are able, show up and show your support for the Military. Bring, flags, signs, and most important a friend. And while you are there spend some money at the mall to minimize the impact the protesters have on the mall, a favorite shopping center for the military and their families. Support the Troops counter protesters will meet near the recruitment center. We will be the ones with the flags....

Good advice, NavyCanDo. I hope many people follow it.

Hard to imagine the authorities asking our military familes to stay away from a mall that should be open and safe for everyone just because people are going to protest the recruiters. Military money is green like the rest of the money people use. How dare they ask them to stay away? This is a free country and people have died for that freedom. What is wrong with the authorities. Can’t they handle the crowd? The military families have to stay away??? Mothers, Fathers, little children, teenagers, brothers and sisters, babies? This is insane!

Thanx for the post.I’ll be with you in spirit. What is so ironic about these protestors is the fact that they have the freedom to protest because our military ensures that freedom. They just don’t get it.At some level there is a cognitive disconnect.I’m not a psychologist but imho a lot(most?)of these folks are mentally defective.

It’s the military authorities that are asking them to stay away, not the police.

Remember that the Tacoma protesters are some of the most violent in the country, and are probably trying to attract local teenagers and anarchists to use as cannon fodder in violent attacks.

So be on your guard if you are there. These protesters intend for there to be violence, and want to cause injury and destruction, and they don’t particularly care to who or what, as long as it isn’t to the instigators themselves.

If there are older people there who can’t really defend themselves, watch out for them, as the villains would want to attack them first.

So now military people and their families can’t go shopping? What a crock!

It is so racist of these well off white women to presume to protect minorities from enlisting.

The FBI should be watching and if anyone is prevented from entering the recruiting station the entire lot of protestors should be arrested and face federal criminal charges for blocking access to a fedreal facility.

I am very tired of the hands off approach that these scumbags have been given thus far.

In a future payday all military in the area should be paid with two dollar bills.

That was done when I was at Wichita Falls, Texas for training.

There had been a lot of problems with the local civilian population.

After the town was flooded with two dollar bills, the base commander got on the media and informed locals that if treatment of GIs didn't immediately improve, we would all be restricted to base.

It was amazing how attitudes changed!

“It’s the military authorities that are asking them to stay away, not the police.”

And that’s why the military is losing this social battle.

The slink away!

They have nothing to be ashamed of and should stand tall and face their enemy.

I have to work today but I am going to try to go.

Folks that are fussing at the Military for waring families should keep in mind that young families have young children. Unlike the left many people try to keep little ones away from protests.

There’s a difference between “slinking away” and behaving in a prudent manner.

I’ll be there, with my newly unwrapped Marine Corps flag. I have no small children to protect, so the hippies are welcome to take their best shot.

But... the protest lady said on the news this morning that they're peaceful little lambs! You mean she lied?!

If this were to happen in a Pittsburgh mall, the cops would bash 'em on the head, taze them good, then pepper spray 'em before taking them dahntahn to the jail. This is how every other such protest has been handled here.
