On this mornings conference call, Sen. Obamas campaign manager repeated deep reservations about using the mail-in option in both Michigan and Florida. Yesterday, an Obama campaign strategist highlighted what he thought were potential problems:
"Obviously there are concerns about a mail-in vote. I mean, there are concerns about eligibility, ballot security," [Axelrod] said during a conference call. [AP, 12/11/08]
Even Sen. Obama is now expressing hesitation to endorse a vote by mail system. The Associated Press reported:
Obama...said in an interview with CNN that he had reservations about a vote by mail. "I think there's some concerns in terms of making sure that whatever we do is fair, and that votes are properly counted and the logistics make sense," he said.
But the Obama campaign is making a political argument that doesnt match Sen. Obamas legislative record. In June, Sen. Obama co-sponsored a bill that would establish a vote by mail grant program.
The text of the legislation Sen. Obama endorsed explains the benefits of a vote by mail system over other forms of voting:
(12) Vote by Mail allows voters to educate themselves because they receive ballots well before election day, which provides them with ample time to research issues, study ballots, and deliberate in a way that is not possible at a polling place.
(13) Vote by Mail is accurate--at least 2 studies comparing voting technologies show that absentee voting methods, including Vote by Mail systems, result in a more accurate vote count.
(14) Vote by Mail results in more up-to-date voter rolls, since election officials use forwarding information from the post office to update voter registration.
(15) Vote by Mail allows voters to visually verify that their votes were cast correctly and produces a paper trail for recounts.
Don’t you mean “Fraud by Mail”?
Thanks, Hil. Keep up the good work.
Come now. You should know that it is NOT fraud when a leftist does it.
Read this section of the bill:
(6) Under the Oregon Vote by Mail system, election officials mail ballots to all registered voters at least 2 weeks before election day. Voters mark their ballots, seal the ballots in both unmarked secrecy envelopes and signed return envelopes, and return the ballots by mail or to secure drop boxes. Once a ballot is received, election officials scan the bar code on the ballot envelope, which brings up the voter's signature on a computer screen. The election official compares the signature on the screen and the signature on the ballot envelope. Only if the signature on the ballot envelope is determined to be authentic is the ballot forwarded on to be counted.
—————— so the mainstream media thinks Florida and Michigan could get all these signatures in a computer data base to check who the mail in ballots are from in a ‘few weeks’. I have heard it took Oregon ten years to FULLY implement the TOTAL mail in [mandatory]. It makes you wonder about the ‘brilliant legislators’ that are proposing to do it in a few weeks. But they know how to say, every vote has to count. No it doesn't. It's a primary system, not an election. Why some states have caucuses, etc.
Hey, they could have mail in votes. It would be fun to watch the lawsuits and court battles over just about EVERY signature. That would take the DNC past the NOV election.
The mainstream media is just lazy.
And I think by DNC rules, all primary's have to be completed by 10 JUNE.
The key is the signature on file. One can dispute the signatures if they do not match and can get the vote thrown out. You ask, how do you know???? BECAUSE I HAVE DONE IT BEFORE AND IT WAS AWESOME!!!!
And each fraudulent ballot equals one count of mail fraud, which equals five years in the federal pokey and a nasty fine.
kewl..
