You should buy books on McCarthy that were published after 2001. Books published prior to 2000 would not include the Venona papers and research from the soviet espionage archives, both of which were not available until the late 1990’s. The Venona papers were intercepted intelligence communications between Washington and Moscow during and after WW2. I would recommend Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies by M. Stanton Evans.

Another book that you might enjoy is Witness by Whittaker Chambers. Chambers was a communist who exposed the cancerous spread of over a million members of the communist party throughout the country. Because of Chambers brilliant mind and love of the U.S., he was able to withstand enormous pressure from the “liberal” democrats to expose the communist cancer to congress and the country. Liberal democrats were in constant denial of the fact that communists had infiltrated the federal government. The communist infiltration extended to a high ranking official(Alger Hiss) serving as President Roosevelt’s right hand at Yalta. By the time Chambers completed testifying, over four hundred communists were found working in the government. Chambers died, soon after, from a heart attack - no doubt brought on by the hell he was subjected to by liberal democrats who fought his every step to expose the communist infiltration in the U.S. government.

Another book you might enjoy reading is Witness by Whittaker Chambers. Chambers writing is a delight and whether you buy his book or not, I recommend reading the forward of the book which is a letter to his children. It’s an unusually moving and painful letter written by a man who realizes that soon he will no longer be with his children.
