They make cameras that automatically detect, zoom in on, and track motion, and can be set up to alert an operator.

The EZ Track PTZ camera is one of the most innovative cameras in the surveillance industry. This high performance pan, tilt, zoom camera not only offers all the performance of cameras which cost twice as much but it also automatically tracks people and vehicles!

This break-through technology makes EZ Track Domes incredibly effective in protecting parking lots, storage yards, warehouses or any large area in need of hands free surveillance.

Starting at $1,189.

Those cameras will operate in low light, they don’t appear to have any thermal capabilitys, many areas along the border have no background light, thermal capabilitys are necessary in those areas. Those cameras are limited to 3000 feet, remote border areas require much greater distance to be effective.

I’m sure those cameras need a ready and reliable power feed. That’s kinda hard to come by along about 95% of the Arizona/Mexico border.

I’m not sure what Glen’s using for power, but commercial power is scarce.
