WASHINGTON - House Democratic leaders agreed Thursday to a rare closed-door session the first in 25 years to debate surveillance legislation.
Republicans requested privacy for what they termed "an honest debate" on the new Democratic eavesdropping bill that is opposed by the White House and most Republicans in Congress.
The closed-door debate was scheduled for late Thursday night, after the House chamber could be cleared and swept by security personnel to make sure there are no listening devices.
The last private session in the House was in 1983 on U.S. support for paramilitary operations in Nicaragua. Only five closed sessions have taken place in the House since 1825.

A steak dinner and lots of chivas regal?
We’re going to get royally screwed.
“Exactly. People with integrity and are moral dont have to hide anything.”
Except when they live under a tyranical, corrupt government.
Is this the transparency in government the deomcrats have been promising?
I'm confused. I thought the democrats just did this a couple of years ago?
In this case, the REPUBLICANS are asking for this, and the democrats didn’t want to do it but they have no real choice.
The Democrats are afraid that the Republicans will bring up classified information that will then make it impossible for the democrats to make their pretty speeches in open session because they will have heard the classified information.
In this case it’s the house, not the senate.
Yes, I know that. It was a joke that the House would coordinate with the Senators who are the known big leakers. Humor and sarcasm there.
What goes on in the house stays in the house. Right?
Not to worry, you'll get another just like him soon....if your lucky.
Good moral man, weak leader.
Exactly. Thanks.
Exactly. Thanks.
I hope you were being sarcastic. The evidence that is going to be presented would compromise ongoing surveillance operations.

I completely understand the need. I just thought it was ironic.
Obviousely you did not do a search, or other wise you would have found that it was already posted

Kaslin look at the dates... I was being polite out of respect for your elder status but... you are appear to be the one who did not do a good search and posted a duplicate thread of a thread that was already in breaking news.
