I don’t think he cut the afro off - he used the tightly wound cornrows (that’s probably not the right term) to “shrink” the fro....

He could shave it off, but he didn't have the brains to know that people who knew him wouldn't forget that he had it, and that he might have to supply a reason for shaving it off so soon after the photos appeared.
