History Professor Tom Lorman will yield the lectern to participants of the Defense Department’s “Why We Serve” outreach program, which places military speakers before audiences at venues across the United States.

I would demand:
Imminent Danger pay;
Hostile Fire pay;
Deployment pay for regions outside the United States;
Foreign Linguist bonus; and
suspension of the ROE this occasion.

What a wonderful idea. I’m ashamed to admit that I thought all college campuses were too left wing and closed-minded to sponsor this kind of thing.

So glad that I was wrong.

“The speakers will provide the students insight into what makes a warrior a warrior,”

As a veteran, I really hate the use of the pejorative term "warrior". They aren't "warriors", they are Jimmy who played with your kids when they were all little; Linda, who used to play dolls with your daughter; Carl who wanted to be a fireman; Brittany, who attended your church.

Being in the military is a way for them to serve their nation, earn college money, learn a skill and, maybe, find a career. "Warrior" is a pejorative term that is used intentionally to establish a specific image in our minds.

When I was in the service, we weren't heroic (and, the American people let us know how much they despised the military in those days!), we were just people doing a job. That LAST thing we wanted to do was go to war because we knew who would be the first ones on the front lines! But, at the time, that was our job; just as it is with those serving their country today (and, thank GOD there are still men and willing to join the military to protect the rest of us) and (hopefully, one day) guarantee that the freedoms provided in the Constitution will once again be the hallmark of the United States!!
