(March 12) Yesterday, House Republican leaders endorsed a discharge petition for the enforcement-only SAVE Act (Secure America with Verification Enforcement; H.R. 4088). The petition was filed Tuesday morning by Rep. Thelma Drake (R-Va.) and has 158 bi-partisan signers as of 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Senate GOP Introduces New Immigration Package and Caucus
Senate Republicans held a press conference last week to showcase a package of 15 bills designed to make critical improvements to Americas immigration system. The coalition, led by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), called for full Senate consideration on each of the bills as amendments to any legislative vehicle deemed appropriate by Senate Republicans this year.
Each bill in the enforcement-focused package is designed to represent a specific step toward: securing Americas borders; increasing enforcement at the workplace; and ultimately, restoring law and order to our nations broken immigration system. "One thing that is not offered here is amnesty," Sessions said.
The package is also designed to illustrate achievable, bite-sized steps that the Republican coalition believes a bi-partisan Congress should be able to accomplish between now and November. Many of the ideas contained in the bills have already passed the Senate or been voted on before, but have yet to become law. NumbersUSA will provide more information on the legislation when it becomes available.
Senators attending the press conference also used the event to announce the formation of the Border Security and Enforcement First Caucus.
The principle mission of the caucus, which includes Republican Senators David Vitter (La.), James DeMint (S.C.), Jeff Sessions (Ala.), James Inhofe (Okla.), Elizabeth Dole (N.C.), Saxby Chambliss (Ga.), Johnny Isakson (Ga.), Richard Burr (N.C.), and Roger Wicker (Miss.), is to "promote a true, achievable alternative: attrition through enforcement and border security." The Caucus' press release further stated, "Living illegally in the United States will become more difficult and less satisfying over time when the government at ALL LEVELS enforces all of the laws already on the books.
My man is on board already.
Mine (Campbell) was a co-sponsor and has also signed.
Mine too. Everyone else, there is link in the posted article to see if you rep is on the petition. http://www.numbersusa.com/interests/attrition.html#s2
thanks, bfl
My Rep (Kevin Brady) is already onboard.
Beat ya to it. I emailed my most moderate republican representative(my only representative and he is the only federal republican in our state) Mike Castle from Delaware who signed the petition and thanked him. This, after I emailed him for not co sponsoring the actual bill.

Sometimes a real phone call is more effective, but an email is good.
Did your House Rep sign?
As a Democratic patriot, I am putting pressure on the Blue Dogs and other moderate-to-conservative Democrats to support this measure. http://rightdemocrat.blogspot.com/2008/03/pass-save-act-now.html
Nick Lampson D-TX responded to pressure from his constituents and signed the discharge petition opposed by the House Democratic leadership.

I also contacting local labor organizations and urging them to get involved in passing the SAVE Act. Your rank-and-file union member will strongly support this legislation.
Here is a better link on Nick Lampson’s support for the discharge petition.

Excellent effort on your part.
I don’t know what your position on other issues is, but I think that many Freepers today are more concerned about specific issues than loyalty to party. If the Dems nominated someone better than McCain (but of course they didn’t) I would vote a good Dem for POTUS. I believe Schuler is good on the border and pro-life. I don’t understand why he liked Edwards for POTUS though.
BTW, you are in the Houston neighborhood. Have you heard any explanation why Ron Paul won’t sign? Did Paul lie to us about immigration?
Thanks, I think sometimes we have to look beyond parties and even left and right. Any American ought to care about this issue.
I am from Florida. Don’t know why Ron Paul will not sign. Paul usually opposes anything that involves any federal spending but the SAVE Act will save money in the long run.

Sorry, I assumed you were in Nick Lampson’s district.
