I'm not a Romney fan, but if your idea of a veep is votes, Romney came in second, even thou he left over a month before Huckabee. I would prefer a conservative, like Fred or Duncan. But neither of them garnered many votes either.

Mitt Romney said in his first interview since departing the GOP race that he would accept the number two position on the ticket and that there is no lingering bitterness between him and John McCain.
Wow this would be fantastic and a definite step in the right direction for McCain.

Well, no.
McCain must do better than this.
Regardless of how you feel about Romney, the fact is that he does not get votes. He demonstrated miserably that even his millions would not buy votes. And it will take votes to win in November.
Not good.

Romney may not be the perfect choice, but I’ll take him any day over Lindsey Graham, who following McCain around like a lost puppy — including the current trip to the middle east.
McCain is far and away better than what the Dems are offering and at least Romney would give voters something to count on should McCain’s health fail.

There was a tremendous amount of animosity between JFK and LBJ, but Kennedy needed Johnson to get the southern vote and a winning team was born. ;-)

I love it that there are no stories about how McCain is considering Huckabee. That guy is a twerp and I am glad he finally picked up his huge ego and went home.

Quite honestly, I don't think a VP choice means much of anything. Unless there is something about him the opposition can use. I mean, they don't do anything unless the president croaks. And I think McCain is to ornery to do that. Maybe in the old days that idea of regional balance. But I'm not even so sure that was as important as it was made out to be.

I agree. A VP pick means nothing other than an attempt to pull a few more voters in. Also McCain isn’t the type to let a disagreement with his VP get in the way of doing whatever in the hell he damned well pleases.

Wow. The anti-McCain crowd is also anti-Romney. Or is it the Huckabee-Tancredo-Hunter FR thread spam axis?
Knock me over with a feather.
Now we’re going to have to read shrill, screaching anti-Romney ditties for the next month. I don’t know if I can take it.

Using terms like “Big Dog” and putting on a show of deference is to be expected of a supplicant, err, applicant for the position of Vice President.

Romney also exposed his throat, laid on his back, and exposed his tummy for scratching while moving his rear excitedly.

There are no perfect choices. I preferred Romney in the primary and will vote for McCain in the general election.
Romney is a smart and honest technocrat who would probably work his ass off for the public good. I trust the geek.
I don't care what job he takes, Prez, Veep, Cabinet, whatever...
We need to elect a Republican President and get Romney inside national government. He can do good there.
People hate him because he has perfect hair...
And a billion dollars....
And fresh-faced flawless children...
And rock-hard rippling abs...
Oh my God. I think I have a man-crush.

“Yeah. Romney’s a real vote getter. He wowed them in the primaries.”
He could only guarantee Utah’s vote. Huckabee would draw more votes for McCain than Romney every would. Huckabee would shore up the religious conservative base and the Southern vote.
Of course, neither of these men will be McCain’s pick.
