Ending up with Clinton and Obama.
While I'm not crazy about McCain, I'll take him over any Democrat.
According to the American Conservative Union's congressional voting rankings, Obama has one of the worst voting record on conservative issues in Congress at ~8%, and Clinton is right behind him with ~9%.
McCain scored about 82% on the same scale. Is he perfect? No. Is he better than either of them? Hell yes. Plus, he has far more experience than both of them combined. He's simply a far better choice than either, or God forbid, both of them.
If you think we can let them win now, and then ride some "backlash" into victory the next time, you're sorely mistaken. The last time they had control, it took almost 50 years to get it back (then we lost it, but that's another story). I firmly believe that this country (and the world) will not survive either of these Democrats in the White House for four to eight years.
Sure he has compromised on some of “our” issues, but if you don't vote for him, you are voting for them. Suck it up. Sorry your “guy” didn't make it (whomever that that was), but that's politics.

That’s a bit over the top.

Why. Carter “backlashed” us into Reagan; Clinton (thanks to his sex scandals, mostly) “backlashed” us into Dubya (for better or worse).

You are talking about control of *Congress*. That has little or nothing to do with who wins the White House. The pubbies are going to lose 4 or 5 seats (depending on Mary Landrieu) at least, no matter who wins the White House. We’re going to lose a bunch of House seats, too. A lot of GOP resignations, disastisfaction over the economy will see to that. Hastert’s seat in IL just went Dem in a special election! A bad omen, indeed.

Eff dat. The lesser of two evils is still evil, and I’ve had enough of it.
