One of the excuses that I recall being made for Bill Clinton is that spreading your oats around was a normal character trait of high achieving men.

Anyone who can trace their ancestry back to 15th centruy England, for instance, most likely has William the Conqueror somewhere in their family tree. Even multiple times. The guy fathered a great number of kids.

I wouldn't doubt that enough research would find him in Slick Willie's family tree and he could blame his genes.

OTOH, William the Conqueror is in my family tree at least nine times and I don't blame my genes. I also manage to keep my jeans zipped except for Mrs. Vigilanteman.

Spitzer already lamely attempteds to do that on his own behalf with somr ludicrous remark positing that whatwas important was “the ideas” someone like him brought to the table, not this other stuff.
