(Editor's Note: This story contains references to graphic material about homosexuality and violence.)
Parents in Deerfield, Ill., are upset that a local high school is using books in advanced English classes this spring that they say are laced with graphic sexual content, pervasive expletives and mockery of religion.
Worse, the books - "Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes (Parts 1 & 2)" - are required reading for advanced placement English students at Deerfield High School, but a parents' group wants them removed.
"Who would have ever thought that we would be handing out pornography in public schools?" asked Lora Sue Hauser, executive director of North Shore Student Advocacy, and a Deerfield parent.
"The fact that this was required is even more astonishing," she told Cybercast News Service.
Hauser cites numerous examples of offensive passages from the text, including the following:

Wow, I’m not sure what to say. Kind of speaks for itself.

Parents complain?
Why in the hell aren't they storming the "Bastille"?
At the very least they should be dragging little Johnny & Janie out of that den of iniquity.

I get the feeling there isn't a big outcry because Deerfield is very well-to-do and a lot of the parents are probably of the "progressive" persuasion.

If the teachers and/or administration are giving the kids porn, that’s illegal, & they should be arrested.
If they are forcing the kids to read this trash, isn’t that akin to pedophilia? It is certainly coercing a minor to view sexual material.

I could not agree more. This is porn and they are not legal adults.
To: redstates4ever
"Progressive", or not, if they (
parents) think their kids are well served by being taught (
persuaded?) to think of living a deviant, life threatening existence, then they need to be institutionalized.
Ooops ... I forgot. The "progressives" don't allow that anymore.

I guess these students have already read all of Shakespeare, Byron Keats, Shelly, Twain, Hawthorne, Longfellow, Poe, Steinbeck, Tolstory, etc. Probably already finished off (in translation) all of Dante, Hugo and Verne as well.
After you have finished your study of all of the great literature in world, I guess you are reduced to studying filth.

Good point. I wonder what is on the syllabus in that school? More importantly, I’d love to know more about the teachers in the English department.

I’m on a one man mission to ask people to call the national talk shows about what they are doing to our kids. Every time I get through to Rush or Hannity they want nothing to do with stuff like this. And they’re so worried about the Fairness Doctrine. They’re already silenced. We have no voice.

Winning a battle is very easy when you have cowed the populace.
The Left has, for all intents and purposes, won by the political correctness method.
We, the few whom have not fallen for their propaganda, will be ignored, or "dealt with", until we wrest it away from them at the point of a gun.
The global warming fraud is but one miniscule example of how we have been forced into their idiocy. The corupting of our Constitution, another.
Truth has become a lie.

The parents should file criminal charges against everyone from the school board on down to the pedophile teachers. That might get their attention.
Aren’t indicted or charged public employees usually suspended with pay until the matter is resolved? Seems a way to get the perverts out of the school immediately.

It’s war. The left is actively destroying the minds of our children. They are winning.
When I took AP English, The required reading included among other things, Jane Austen's Emma, Edmund Spenser's Faerie Queene, a number of works by William Shakespeare, Beowulf, Poems by Wordsworth and Byron, Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, and E.M. Forster's A Passage to India. The theory was that these were both significant works of literature and sound basis for writing AP Exam essays.
While an essay on porn might titillate an exam reader, I doubt it is going to get you AP English credit.
But of course, there's always Shakespeare's "Gay boys in Bondage."
〈 Monty Python 〉
Voice Over: Covered in glory, Sir Philip rode home to Pensburst to see his beloved wife... but all was not well.
Gaskell runs up outside another Tudor house and strides in. Cut to interior of an Elizabethan room - panelled walls, log fire, latticed windows, etc. Sir Philip's wife is sitting reading. Gaskell enters.
Gaskell: Good evening all, my love. I have returned safe from the Low Countries. (she hurriedly hides the book she is reading under some knitting and starts whistling) What are thou reading, fair one?
Wife: Oh, 'tis nothing, husband.
Gaskell: I can see 'tis something.
Wife: 'Tis one of Shakespeare's latest works.
Gaskell picks up the book and reads the title.
Gaskell: Oh ...'Gay Boys in Bondage' What, is't - tragedy? Comedy?
Wife: 'Tis a... er... 'tis a story of a man's great love for his... fellow men.
Gaskell: How fortunate we are indeed to have such a poet on these shores.
Wife: Indeed. How was the war, my lord?
Gaskell: The Spaniards were defeated thrice. Six dozen chests of hardcore captured.
Wife: (trying to look innocent) Hast brought home any spoils of war?
Gaskell: Yes, good my wife, this fair coat trimmed with ermine.
Wife: (without enthusiasm) Oh, lovely, nowt else?
Gaskell: No, no fair lady. The rest was too smutty.
He settles himself down in front of his lady's feet and the fire.
Gaskell: Now, my good wife. Whilst I rest, read to me a while from Shakespeare's 'Gay Boys in Bondage'.
The wife looks a trifle taken aback but reluctantly opens the book and starts to read with a resigned air.
Wife: Yes... my lord ... 'Gay Boys in Bondage' ... Ken, 25, is a mounted policeman with a difference... and what a difference. Even Roger is surprised and he's... (she looks slightly, sick with guilt) he's used to real men ...
Gaskell: 'Tis like 'Hamlet' ... what a genius!
