Probably could have been many things. DOD tracks financial data of people with security clearances looking for any weakness that might make them susceptible to bribery. Seems that politicians would be tracked for the same thing—and for possible extortion.
Perhaps this is where the allegations of money laundering that were mentioned in the news reports early on were coming from....
