I don't know the source of your (mis)information, but I have read extensively in the scholarly literature on the origins of WWI (including all three of the major treatises by Sidney Fay, Bernadotte Schmidt, and Luigi Alberntini), and did graduate work in modern European history with Joachim Remak, author of the definitive Sarajevo: The Story of a Political Murder (New York 1959), and of The Origins of World War I in the respected (pre political correctness) Berkshire Studies in European History series, which is probably the best short summary of the run-up to the war.
