In subs, I suppose the watch sched is different, like that in A/C. While on a ship, the detachment stood 12 on, 8 off for the deployment. On the airplane we were up for 8-10 and had ‘extra’ hours depending on our productivity in the air. We'd check the flight bill heading through the door when we landed...a lot of times we were going up again at 0530. Sometimes we had a day off, but still pulled watches. A 16-20 hour day was the norm. Whenever we got to the PI or some other place for a month or even a few days, standing a regular watch was a piece of cake.
