WASHINGTON - President Bush said Saturday he vetoed legislation that would ban the CIA from using harsh interrogation methods such as waterboarding to break suspected terrorists because it would end practices that have prevented attacks.
"The bill Congress sent me would take away one of the most valuable tools in the war on terror," Bush said in his weekly radio address taped for broadcast Saturday. "So today I vetoed it," Bush said. The bill provides guidelines for intelligence activities for the year and includes the interrogation requirement. It passed the House in December and the Senate last month.
"This is no time for Congress to abandon practices that have a proven track record of keeping America safe," the president said.
Pelosi: Override attempt Supporters of the legislation say it would preserve the United States' ability to collect critical intelligence and raise country's moral standing abroad.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Congress would work to override Bush's veto next week. "In the final analysis, our ability to lead the world will depend not only on our military might, but on our moral authority," said Pelosi, D-Calif.

He knows how to veto? Who knew?
The left actually likes that President Bush did this because in their delusional minds they think most Americans support the ban. If the pollsters would ask if they think the CIA should do whatever it takes to prevent an attack on US soil a huge majority would say yes.
Good for him! Pelosi and Reid will howl like dogs.
Can the Obama campaign use waterboarding on Hillary to GET THE TRUTH ???? (chuckle) — we already know the truth about the Clintons -— we need to get the truth out about Osama Obama.
This is 3 or 4 now.
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Congress would work to override Bush’s veto next week. “In the final analysis, our ability to lead the world will depend not only on our military might, but on our moral authority,” said Pelosi, D-Calif.”
The immoral are ROFLTAO at you, Nancy.
Hooray President Bush!
Everyone who paid any attention at all to politics for the last 8 years.
He wants to use it on Border Patrol agents caught doing their jobs.
We’ll see? If he does then there goes what support he built in the past few weeks.
Bush should follow that up with an executive order REQUIRING water boarding.
That would be too funny.
Heh heh. The lefties would be howling!

So they can torture in the streets for fun but we not supposed to do it to our deadliest enemies?
Up to and including Señor Juan McAmnesty, who wants to ban waterboarding, close Guantanamo Bay, and grant American civil liberties to terrorists.
“Will McCain repudiate him?”

McCain encouraged him to veto it. McCain’s position on this is often misstated. McCain fought to prevent the military from using waterboarding. However, he has not opposed it being used in some situations. He feels that the CIA (and other non-military counter-terrorist agencies) should have the tool available to them to use in certain situations and he doesn’t believe that any technique should be prohibited from the President authorizing in some cases.
How these people live with themselves is a mystery to me...
