Today, I officially left the Republican Party and became a registered Independent. ... I have no intentions of returning to the GOP until they return to the conservative principles that once ruled the party. I've considered doing the same thing, but I think that is exactly what they want. Without voices of dissent, the Rockefeller Pubbies, the "National Greatness conservative" whackjobs and the Log Cabiners can maintain control indefinitely.
Did you see who he has brought in to run Victory 08? (Carly Fiorina and others). This sounds like its gonna be another liberal lovefest at the RNC convention, just like 2004 when they headlined Schwarzenegger, Giuliani, and McCain. This cr@p has to be stopped if there is any hope, as it is already paving the way for the Party in 2012 and beyond.

The way to stop it is to run a conservative with a third party. Stop the liberal RINOs dead in their tracks and rebuild the party. Right now, there isn’t enough difference in McCain, Obama or Clinton to convince me to vote for McCain.
It just isn’t going to happen. I cannot bring myself down to that gutter level of politics.

I admire the courage and deep principles exhibited in leaving the party---but I have to agree with cal.
Giuliani, Arnie, Mehlman, Rockefeller Pubs, the Kristol "National Greatness" whackos, and Log Cabiners are cancers on the body politic.
They spring from the Everything-For-Us-Nothing-For-You wing of US politics (no different from Me Myself and I Democrats).
This cancerous growth can't be allowed to expand and infect the political system as we know it.
The Repub party got control of the Congress, the WH, and numerous state offices, for a generation BECAUSE of conservatives.
Everytime they try to win without conservatives---it's been a disaster.

While I have many independent friends who I dearly love, what you just wrote is the one reason I've continued to be a member of the Republican Party, despite the scorn and prejudices I'm subjected to here in a land of Democratic plurality. At some point I may have to shoot the (RINO-cerous), and that time may be soon, but for now I shall continue to be a thorn in the side of each and every RINO.
