A statewide inspection of outpatient surgery centers like the one believed to have spread hepatitis C to its patients has uncovered dangerous practices at four other clinics, a health official said Friday.
The state swore to quickly inspect all 50 Nevada outpatient surgery centers after it was discovered the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada spread the blood-borne virus to at least six patients by reusing syringes and sharing vials of medication.
Of the 18 clinics inspected by Friday, three in northern Nevada and one in Las Vegas will be cited and fined for improper disease prevention techniques, state health division chief Mike Willden said.
Willden said there was no evidence that the clinics were responsible for any outbreaks of disease.
The Gastrointestinal Diagnostic Center in Las Vegas will be cited for repeatedly reusing syringes, he said. Willden could not say whether the center also reused medication vials. Clark County pulled the center's business license, shutting it down shortly after the announcement.
Willden said the Digestive Health Center in Reno had problems with sterilization of equipment, but he did not elaborate.
The center did not immediately return a call for comment.

18!!! And that’s just Nevada. Imagine what the rest of the country is doing. Un-freakin’ believable. What’s a .50 needle compared to someone’s life not to mention your clinic being sued and your medical license being pulled?
Note to self: Have any needed oscopy’s done at the hospital.
Syringes and needles are cheap!
What would it add to the cost of treating one person?
$5.00, maybe?
The willingness to potentially expose someone to a deadly virus to save such a small amount of money is what’s REALLY disturbing.

Nahh. If you read to the end of the thread, you’ll see that both still think its ok, and the rest of us are just knee-jerking. Amazing.
NautiNurse has a impeccable reputation on FR so I tend to favor her statements. Let see how all this turns out when the facts are known.
I know she’s right. NN is the voice of sanity over there. I just don’t know how people can say some of the stuff said on that thread with a straight face.
If I shake my head any more about this case I’ll get as dizzy as those defending an indefensible practice.
What a TREAT :)
It was not needles. It was syringes. MizTerious is a local Las Vegas poster with little evidence of an IQ number higher than room temperature.
I’m not from Las Vegas. I’m not IN Las Vegas. Now whose IQ is similar to room temperature? My state is easy enough to find for those with the mindpower to figure out how to look.
And I never claimed they were sharing needles, although some articles did claim that they were.
Oh.My.GOSH. Yup, it’s one for the record books!
Bump.

You have been posting frequently in the Las Vegas newspaper. Makes no difference where you are. Maybe it does explain why some of your remarks make little sense.
I do NOT post in the LV newspaper. I post articles FROM it. Talk about not making sense....
