There is a VAST difference between the Illinois Republican Party (and it's incumbents), and Conservatism, not to mention that it (IRP) had soiled itself in the first place- Creating the need for Keyes to go there at all.
There was no need for Keyes to go there. He was an oportunistic carpetbagger who's ego got the better of him.
