This story just immediately reminded me of Carrie Fisher in the Blues Brothers. And “Curl Up and Dye” was, of course, the name of her salon in the movie.
There was a story — I want to say by O. Henry but that may be wrong — about a barber who was known for never having even nicked a customer. Then one day the dreaded enemy comes for a shave. (I don’t recall exactly what the dreaded enemy did or was planning to do.) The barber mulls over to himself, “Should I slash his throat or not?”
I want to say that the barber decides his professional reputation is more important than his politics.
