I wasn’t thinking about explosive rounds, since I can’t get those. I have shot a Texas (i.e. small) deer with my Barrett just to see... wasn’t pretty, but didn’t do anything like that. And yes, most of the meat was fine. Chest cavity was a mess tho’.

I don't have a rifle chambered in anything remotely approaching yours, but I'd guess that a .50 BMG would just sail right through a whitetail and keep on screaming along over the hills and into the next county. Now I know that it wouldn't blow a deer to flinders from reading your account.

Did the bullet stop or shed it's jacket on that hit you made?
